Great choice!! Happy Friday

The post Civil War period is filled with melancholy ballads such as this one, recorded on a hard beeswax taper, an early medium of sound transfer.

Last night I dreamed that I was visiting some other city where Kurt was leading a bike ride to a museum on a beach. He promised "summer jams."

I wonder if the Czech "Seasons in the Sun" mentions the adultery, because some versions, like Terry Jacks, sure omitted that bit?

I just wish it was someone less cool than Jacques who wrote it...

I love "Charade"! watch it over and over. The movie fell out of copyright (!!??!) so you can see it on youtube...
  4:40pm
ScottC:

@Caryn I lived across the street form Rod McKuen in the 60's ( Haight Ashbury) And when he moved away ( L.A.?) we kids would sneak around his abandoned house and watch the mail pile up. Then one day a giant yellow machine with big teeth came and ate the wooden house right down to the foundation. He wrote a poem about this period called "Stanyon St" I believe... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=233rTu8wdhg&feature=kp

@Caryn It's weird but that 3 block stretch ( Willard to Cole on Parnassus - crossing Stanyon) has had a few "famous" people living there. Michael Moore and the diminutive "craig" from craigslist...

I had no idea he had been so ill. I saw him not *that* long ago. These days 77 isn't all that old, either. And he had a cherubic visage.

Charlie Haden !!
...My straight-ahead Jazz 'mentor'/surrogate big brother when I lived on the West Coast was a major Charlie Haden enthusiast - & I met Charlie once !; saw the Quartet West in L.A. the same day I saw McCoy Tyner's smoking trio ! Wow.
  5:39pm
Dean:

It seems like only three or four years ago, but I saw him back in late '05 with Alan Broadbent and an amazing Liberation Music Orchestra. BTW, he wasn't quite 77. His birthday would have been not four weeks away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
common:

hey kurt and people. been playing hooky from my stupid job. hello!
  5:41pm
Listening Out There:

Haden had an *amazing* life, considering singing country music when young, Ornette, West Coast jazz, Liberation Music Orchestra, triplet daughters, son in law Jack Black.
Avatar 5:41pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Just came back from a freakishly long meeting (on a friday afternoon, yet) - and just sussing the theme here. Drag. I was just jamming that Coltrane/Cherry LP recently; permanent classic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm

He was Politically Righteous & quite bravely outspoken - as well as both an innovative & soulful Bass master - & encouraging to students - & everyone. A great authority & communicator of Music & what it means.
