Good evening everybody!
I feel like I heard just a couple days ago that twink is a word used in gay culture to describe a type of person. Can't remember what the type was though. I think it was twink.
In any case this band sounds way different from the Twink from Pink Faeries. Nice though...
  10:11pm
rw:

Or is it Pink Fairies?
Avatar 10:12pm
Dave Mandl:

Evening, rw. "Fairies," I think.
  10:18pm

German Army. I saw them play at a place called The Echo and heard them played on a show called World of Echo. Weird.

How's it going JakeGould? Have you had any messages yet from that new social media thingy?
  10:30pm
JakeGould:

rw, funny thing: A few days ago when I was really busy I did not feel my phone vibrate to tell me someone wants me to deliver a message in “Somebody” so I missed my first shot! Bummer.

It's been awhile since I've had a normal Sunday night with Dave.
  10:40pm
rw:

That is a bummer. It'll ring (vibrate) again.
So did somebody not get the message to pick up a dozen eggs on the way home from work? Something like that?
  10:44pm
rw:

Thanks Snortley. Not a term I'm guessing I'll be using much in my day to day, but now I'll know what they mean if somebody calls me a twink.
  10:45pm
P-90:

If Anyone Cares Dept: Twink (drummer)-
Twink has said he is on board to do a reunion project discussed by Steve Howe and Keith West, of their legendary London psychedelic band "Tomorrow"
  10:47pm
rw:

P-90 Sounds awful. Or great. One of the two.
  10:51pm
JakeGould:

Well, the way it works is if I wanted to send a message to you, I could. But then you would get a notification that I want to send a message to you, but you would only be able to choose the person who will deliver the message to you. Or something like that. or you can “float” the message so any random person can then say “Hey I can deliver that to them!” But then the recipient would be alerted saying, “Do you want this jabroni to deliver this to you?” Interesting concept.
  10:54pm
P-90:

rw: They were a great English Blues band that became more psychedelic as the decade (60s) progressed, as a lot of bands did. Their song "My White Bicycle" was the source for the title of the recent book about that era, "White Bicycles: Making Music in the 60's"
But early on, they were one of the very best blues revival bands in England, at least as good as the Stones with Brian or any band you could name, no kidding...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Andrew Waterloo:

This Ibrahim is great.
Avatar 11:12pm
Dave Mandl:

@Andrew: Agreed!
  11:12pm
rw:

JG Sounds kind of complicated, but could be pretty fun. Keep us updated!
Avatar 11:13pm
Dave Mandl:

@P-90: Well, not necessarily. White Bicycles were a phenomenon in Holland in the '60s, and the Tomorrow song was a reference to that.
  11:14pm
JakeGould:

RW, it’s not that hard. It’s basically the recipient choosing an intermediary to deliver a message. Nothing more or less.
Avatar 11:14pm
Dave Mandl:

(It was a hippie/communal thing. People would leave white bicycles on the street, and anyone who needed it could just take it, ride it, and then leave it for someone else.)
  11:18pm
rw:

Oh... I know the song and always wondered about the reference. Now bicycles are painted white and locked to a pole near where a cycling fatality occurred. There's a pretty dangerous intersection of bike path and street near my house. There have been at least two of them in the past year or so. I always think of that song when I see them.
Avatar 11:19pm
Dave Mandl:

@rw: Yeah, I think those are called "ghost bikes." Different thing, and a lot less happy than the Dutch '60s ones.
  11:20pm
P-90:

The book's title is a reference to the Tomorrow song, the lyrics of which were inspired by the Dutch free bicycle program, an early forerunner of Citi Bike and other current programs.
  11:23pm
rw:

P-90 Sounds like you're getting tickets for the Tomorrow reunion if it happens. Still not sure whether it will (if it happens) be awful or great, but something I would consider attending myself to find out.

  11:38pm
JakeGould:

Kenzo, yup! The “Somebody” app.
  11:40pm
rw:

We have a new BikeShare program in town with white bicycles near bus stops, etc. Now I can think of that song even more often and in a happier context.
  11:45pm
JakeGould:

I like the bikeshare program in NYC. I don’t even use the bikes. But when I need a break from work I go to the nearest station, sit on one & pedal backwards for a while. Costs me nothing & calms me down.
  11:47pm
rw:

Dave, I spent too much time conversing on this thing and not enough time listening to the music. I'm going to download the archive to my phone. Thanks as always. I might also look into that C86 box. Sounds like it might make a good Christmas gift for somebody. My dog's hounding me to take him out. Gotta go. Have a good week e'rybody!
Avatar 11:48pm
Dave Mandl:

@rw: Thanks. Yeah, you're right, that would be a great gift for a pop fan. Have a good week.
  11:48pm
rw:

Jake you DO use the bikes. You just don't PAY for them!
Avatar 11:49pm
Dave Mandl:

If you pedal backwards, they have to pay you!
Avatar 11:50pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

They're run by Citibank, and I believe Jake lives in the US. So, yeah, he does pay for them.
Avatar 11:51pm
Dave Mandl:

@Kenzo: Haha, very true.

P-90:

Thanks, Dave!
  12:03am
JakeGould:

Yeah, Citibank was too big to fail so we are all paying for those bikes. Also the area I work in SoHo has a station filled with bikes every 3 blocks or so. So I am not getting in the way of anyone’s needs.
