Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
March 13, 2016: Fundraising Marathon Week Two with Dan Bodah
Looking forward to your premium Gaylord. I'm notorious for tormenting vacation-spot guests with the local beautiful music station. Was saddened when it went off the airwaves not long ago, replaced by God-rock. Still on the web at least: jcr.jones.edu
ola gaylord and family. i haven't been playing this marathon like a slot machine so you won't hear my name, but wanted you to know a slab of my swag for life pledge will be dedicated to your show and margaret rich when i sit down to suss it all out.
Altho' obviously the genocide of the Khmer Rouge was singular, one of humanity's worst occurrences - it's not entirely inappropriate as a metaphor for WFMU is & does. Make no mistake - in the Culture @ Large in which we exist - in the Music Business & Broadcasting as they are in fact now - WFMU *is* the Resistance - both in terms of its' Funding (all of us) - & its' Content & Forms. It is of, for & by those of us who insist on the survival of active Culture that is not prescribed from the top down by Corporate powers that be. For those of us who will not forget. My gratitude far exceeds my trivial monthly contribution. Keep it alive my friends.
