Hush Puppies one step up from brothel creepers.
  11:07am
lloyd michigan:

So, are those Hush Puppies for men or women? I don't understand that ad.

Rock on Mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am

I think they were usually for men.

Rockin' Big Time as usual ms!

lloyd michigan:

Hush Puppies were men's shoes, but this has me puzzled. And I've been in advertising since 1977.

Nuthin but the hits!
Thank you Michael.

lloyd michigan:

Gotta hear at least one song from Merle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Brian in UK:

@lloyd read the small print.

I remember in the late Sixties, a clothes company called Austin Reed advertised a range to try and stop you smoking as "the jacket to jack it off in". This expression was no well known over here at the time. Wacko.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am
Brian in UK:

Not sure where that memory came from. Maybe Lord Johns in Carnaby Street.

That's wild, Brian. I read the copy in the HP ad, and still don't get it. Haven't had my coffee yet.

It is of the time. For "Libs" (womens liberation) it would have been "Squares" ten years earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
melinda:

@Brian: are 'brothel creepers' a real thing or did you make it up? I like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am

melinda, no I really should have compared Hush Puppies with desert boots.
Brothel creepers are what Teddy Boys wore over here in the late Fifties. Along with Drape jackets . Honest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
Stevel:

Are Brothel Creepers related to Winklepickers?

I love the Black Hollies. I want more of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am

Thanks Brian, I believe you. I've always confused desert boots with Wallabees.
  11:34am
lloyd michigan:

Are desert boots chukka boots?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Brian in UK:

No way brothel creepers are sort of crepe soles and round toed but winkle pickers, as the name implies are pointed and screw your feet up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Stevel:

Heck, Lloyd, I just like saying Winklepicker, out loud.
  11:37am
lloyd michigan:

I'm sure somewhere in the world, it's offensive.

I guess winkle pickers comes from the ability to pick a winkle shellfish from its shell as it is pointed.

Phew enough.
