Morning friends! Trying an experiment today.. will be VJing GIFs live from 9am to Noon, and relying on my pals Traktor and Matthew Q Garbagetime, Esq to help me start and stop my musical selections.
hi kens and non-kens! i have two issues to address in this post.
1) this whole "radio with visuals" thing is really awesome
2) get that kickstarter going so i can give you more money
3) there is no 3
And a big thank you to the wonderful people of New Jersey! Now it's up to you Bernie supporters! I know you are already conspiring to favour Trump! Go WW3!!! Go, go, gooo!
Optimized is a great idea! But I'll encourage WFMU to take a new direction and take the lead (like they did with the Internet*) to totally embrace and start experimenting with virtual reality to merge sound, video and reality. Magic Leap, Oculus VR, anyone? VJing is so 2016. VRing is the next thing!
* Thanks to Komissar Ken

Cory,
You and me together, from a top of a hill, watching the world go down in flames (including the Barenaked Ladies)!
But the only thing it really worries me is that Trump hasn't been assassinated yet by a time traveler. This could mean we might not have a WW3 coming after all :'(
FoFo,
Groovy baby, i grok it and we are there together. Trump doesn't really scare me. it'r the dude after trump. there's were the monster sleeps. plus, we've fucked the planet (for us)
Problem with VR is that it's 100% pre-produced. Is anybody doing anything like live, real-time VR? Also, VR has an incredibly hogh barrier to entry. But it's an interesting notion.
Ken, I know there's been some projects with live streaming concerts or sports events in VR using 360-degree cameras, and Youtube added the ability recently to upload 360-degree videos or livestreams. But I don't know any details about that, I've been focusing on game development.
There's also AltspaceVR (altvr.com) which is a VR meeting space where you can create an avatar and chat with other people online. I think some of the livestreaming stuff has been done through them.
I'd like to request some of the animations from Pink Floyd's The Wall. The marching hammers, for example. If you can show the video for Don Felder's "Heavy Metal" around 11:00, that would be really garbagy!
8:40am
ƑO² (:
Well, VR can add real time video editing techniques such as those from this experiment where one person's face expressions show up in someone's else face in real time video.
Optimized! runs all this week from Noon-3pm. Today is an exception starting with Ken's show!
The playlist/schedule will resume here after Ken: wfmu.org... with new shows/music from Jim Price, People Like Us, Tim Maloney, Busy Doing Nothing, Jim Price, DW Robertson (Ergo Phizmiz), Gwilly Edmondez, Dan Deacon, John Kilduff with Let’s Paint TV live at Monty Hall (skype letspaintwfmu), Dina Kelberman
so the best way of smoothly experiencing this is to play the video from the wfmu.org tab and then have this page open separately to post comments, and then it will not interrupt streaming of the video
is this show being broadcasted from a boat? or is there going to be a live VR feed later from the boat? is the boat in Andy's backyard? will there be boat gifs?

Not that I am a conspiracy theory nutty but who else here feels Optimized is nothing but a Videodrone front operation made to alter and damage our brains so powerful people take control over the world?
I tried to remember what else happened in that episode and looked it up, "Eventually, Butters is filtering negative comments for an increasingly large number of people, including Demi Lovato and Vin Diesel, which requires him to stay up late at night and suffer from sleep deprivation." hahaha
Doesn't Butters also leap out of a window and wind up in a body cast for the remainder of the season? That most recent season was one of south park's best.
Hows does the video booth feel about Toilet Bunny?

It seems we reached a maximum of 82 viewers. Time to pull Plan B, Ken! Show your titties! A friend of a friend of mine told me that's how you reach the 500's 1000's numbers
I think we are all trapped in Ken's Brain until noon...RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!!!!
10:00am
ƑO² (:
The 80,030 is the page views the video feed has generated since I don't know when. The small number to the left is the current number of viewers watching
Why Ken doesn't comment?
Are you at home?
I miss you.
XOXOXOXOXOXOXO
Where are you?
Are you with PLU?
You aren't answering
You are making me mad!
I'm in front of the station.
Of cpurse bullying trolls validated by money and 'success' would mock the very idea that 'reality' doesn't have to include trolls and bullies. Sometimes I think we deserve Trump, but then I remember that I don't.
'Morning, Ken and everybody. This optimized stream is a fascinating and well received diversion from my otherwise dismal Wednesday. Also, this Eläkeläiset is awesome as hell!

Does caffeine count? It's damnably strong, mind-altering, and incredibly addictive, but often gets a free pass because it's a drug your boss wants you to take....
(Note: Many Mormons do in fact drink soda with caffeeine, leading me to belueve that it is the civilised-but-intense pleasure brought by coffee and tea to which their founders fundamentally objected.)
10:26am
CKev:
It took me a moment to realize why I was only hearing each word in one ear. Clever.
Murakami - oh absolutely, caffeine is definitely a powerful mind-altering substance, it's just a socially acceptable one. I feel a lot more balanced since I quit drinking coffee 8 months ago.
Føƒø - I've always been drug & nicotine free, except for second hand smoke. No alcohol either - and I'm pretty low on meat, wheat, caffeine, and dairy . That's why I'm so boring!
Wait a minute! Now everybody here doesn't do drugs! Oh, c'mon! Last week everyone here was a a drug expert! In fact, the comment section looked like a WikiPedia entry for LSD
Cliff:
The funny thing to me was that I read his essay on pot-smoking written as (I believe) 'Professor X' for William Novak's "High Culture: Marijuana in the Lives of Americans" years before it was revealed as being his. Notable in it: get ideas high, evaluate them sober; in his case sometimes they were worthwhile (in his eyes).
I quit drinking coffee for 6-7 months and started again maybe a month ago. Feel like I was living in a haze for half a year. I'm glad I reset to a healthy baseline, but I don't think I'd quit again. It's a good "mild" anti-depressant, me thinks.
@Fofo: I think it was a small number of people actually relating their drug experiences, but it seemed like a lot since those of us with little or no experience didn't have anything to share.
Murakami, that's been my experience too, it removes the mental filters and makes me more creative. I journal and sketch a lot and then when I sober up I go through and sort out the good stuff from the nonsense.
10:34am
wild neil:
during the Viet Nam war the USAF did an anonymous survey of those in country who did drugs...it was like ninety percent. Wow!
I found caffeine to be a good antidepressant, too, but eventually figured out the side effects weren't worth it, for me. Major diet changes helped make up for the lack of stimulant, though.

melinda,
Fair enough. I guess sharing the experience of using drugs is part of the whole experience.
Also, I think Sagan would be dismayed by the direction taken by the whole "skeptic" movement since he's died, it's turned itself into a fundamentalist ideology that must be defended from heretics and nonbelievers at all costs.
I wanted desperately to be off anti-depressants, was for a season, then realised I was just barely treading water...and then a Trump presidency became an actual possibility, giving me that 'stuck in the Bad World that time traveller accidentally created' feeling... it was time to start hacking my dopamine/norepinephrine/KOR systems again.
I think weed should be freely available, escpecially for Cancer patients to alleviate their pain if they want it and also for Hospice....Portugal made most drugs legal and it solved a lot of problems over the years such as ODs etc...just tax it like liquor and cigarettes. Right now I think exercise endorphine release is the best drug there is...
Cliff:
Robert Anton Wilson would disagree—he cast Sagan (along with James Randi) as a Grand Inquisitor for daring to point-out that Uri Geller was an arrant fraud. 'Closing-off reality tunnels' he called it; I say that 0.) the sceptics opened a better tunnel than the one Geller was promoting for his own benefit, and 1.) some tunnels ought to be closed-off, the ones unproductive and inexpertly shored-up.
@Melinda-so many are sitting in jail because it is not, its really a tragedy....God Bless the states of Colorado etc standing up to our Federal Govt and saying enough is enough!
@melinda
Create one way or another to be better _at_ something or another, or just seem to be, and an hierarchical primate will come along to try to use it to be just plain 'better' (that is, higher-up in the hierarchy), and usually missing the original point.
Ha, I clicked on the UStream button and it crashed my whole computer! Funny, my radio never does that. People really need to stop inventing things that don't work.
Welp, I will officially be adding this show to my favorites for viewing/listening at a later date... and an altered state.

Why is porn for the blind a public service provided by a non-profit, while porn for everyone else is completely for-profit and considered to have no social value?

JP from KC,
I think they are one-offs. That is, I don't think is possible to view this show (or previous Ustream) archives. Better watch it right now!
hi all, am at library p.c. video was coming thru, but just stopped. and audio was coming in twice (a lag, i think), but now it's good. maybe those 2 events are related. ... ah, video is now on, and audio is fine.
P-90:
Yes, at least some of Pseu Braun's shows' have been, at least for a time...maybe because they're just one hour in length.
With a desktop (or a rooted/jailbroken device) , TotalRecorderPro (or equivalent) , and lots of storage, you could archive these using the 'analogue hole'. I've tried sniffing the stream for the U-Stream video, but either couldn't find it or they use some URI-hopping to make life difficult (and stay in business).

It's a very old TV show called 'To Tell the Truth' where contestant try to guess who's saying the truth among others. In this clip we are revealed who is Linda Laurie, the 'Ambrose' singer.
i'm gonna out myself as a non-fan of video and gif as done by this show. sorry ken. though i've never really given it a try and do understand that some things need to be watched and understood. it's similar with me & music videos, me and david byrne "just don't have time for that now"
Quick, people! Let's talk about passionate about politics, Rush, tacos, toilette humour and all topics prohibited by Komissar Ken before he comes back!!
just so you know folks, Optimized! CONTINUES after Ken's show for THREE hours - with brand new material made specially for us from Jim Price, People Like Us, Tim Maloney, Busy Doing Nothing with Charlie, Ergo Phizmiz, Gwilly Edmondez, Dan Deacon, John Kilduff with Let’s Paint TV live at Monty Hall (skype letspaintwfmu) and animated gifs from Dina Kelberman

I think Vicki has done a great job with Optimized so far and in addition, she's paving the way to the future of this station where video takes a more prominence among future global audiences.
I predict that President Trump will pass an executive order making it mandatory for every American to eat sausage pizza at least once a week, using a fork and knife.
Wild Neil:
What do you think President Trump will do to the legalisation states? I'll guess a lot of his pobucker S.A. smoke dope, but many of them might be happy with its being illegal so long as only the right Wrong People get busted...the sort who believe their daughters must be chaste, their sons must prove their manhood by screwing-around, and the Bad Girls that allow for the first two to coëxist be Punished.
God that whole Porest show yesterday was fantastic, especially if you remember what shortwave radio used to sound like.
11:19am
Sam:
Yeah, Trump's going to be like Giuliani and "clean up" everything. Expect big time harassment of the homeless, and tougher drug laws (on paper that are of course selectively applied).
the Porest show is timestamped and archived now wfmu.org...

melinda,
Yes. Don't you remember the tacogate episode from 3-4 years ago? Were every commenter flooded the comment section with their taco eating exploits? Ken deleted most posts! It was like the Tiananmen square event.
and more adverts, for dogs & cats: July 30, 2016 - Broadway Barks will be held in Shubert Alley, West of Broadway, between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and 8th Avenue, Manhattan. Dogs, cats, celebrities, and plenty of positive energy... its 18th year of saving lives
Internet radio just isn't the same as physically tuning a knob and coming across random stations. Maybe I can rig up some kind of VR radio to get my DXing fix.....
11:21am
Sam:
I wonder if Hillary would listen to the voters and her husband and legalize it. I think Bill would've done it back in the day, if there had been enough popular support then. Bernie would have done it his first day.

@Murakami-I am guessing here, but he said the whole Transgendered bathroom issue should be left up to the states, so I guess he would leave this up to the states also...I am pretty sure he is a small government guy based on what I have heard.
11:26am
Sam:
What about transgender water fountains? And can they sit in the front of the bus?
"You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and W F M U"

The first team to steal a road game in the NBA Finals will also steal a FREE Doritos® Locos Taco for everyone in America.
"If you want weed legalized, Trump is your best option"
Google this and "merryjane"...out of respect to Ken I think he does not like links posted in the comments board.
ƑO² I'm trying to guess your nationality, you said you're a non-native speaker of English and you took an introductory German course in 1998....Dutch? Belgian? (non-German) Swiss? I'm so confused, ha!
Me, I'm laughing like Judy there, but for not the same reasons. Been big and large fun today, Ken. Thanks a lot and see you next time the ice cream truck is in town.
thanks Ken's listeners for being open and enthusiastic and supportive of trying to do new things as well as the old things :)
