This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm listener james from westwood:

How do, Mayuko, Flash, and all!
Avatar 7:02pm Flash Strap:

Evening Mayuko! Wonderful to see you

And Listener James! Are you ready for the end days?
Avatar 7:04pm Flash Strap:

I like to start the show with the big questions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm listener james from westwood:

If tonight's the rapture, at least I haven't paid my rent just yet!
  7:07pm Ed:

Flash!!! Great to be here.
Avatar 7:08pm Flash Strap:

Great to see you here, Ed!
Avatar 7:08pm geezerette:

If the end times sound like this I'm ready.
Avatar 7:08pm Mayuko:

I'm not familiar with biblical concepts, but as far as I can tell from this show the Apocalypse is a fun thing.
  7:09pm Churrorod:

yo i just found your thing the other day looking for a archie shepp download, and wanted to tell you this shit is dope. I'm finding a lot of cool stuff
Avatar 7:11pm Flash Strap:

Geezerette! Churrorod!
Avatar 7:13pm Mayuko:

@james rent, and also I can get away from deadlines (imagining the same for you too as a freelancer.)
Avatar 7:14pm Flash Strap:

Rev. Leo is about to really hook up the main idea here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm listener james from westwood:

Mayuko, to quote Bart Simpson, "Everyone knows the best bands work for Satan anyway."
And yes, I'd likely ease up on finishing the proofreading I'm working on right now and switch to alcohol!
Avatar 7:14pm geezerette:

Mayuko I think all the fun people get left behind while less playful types are raptured "up" to heaven. So everyone should be happy!
Avatar 7:15pm Flash Strap:

"I was already in Hell"
Avatar 7:16pm geezerette:

...and dance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm listener james from westwood:

Rapture >>>>> rupture.
Avatar 7:20pm geezerette:

...you say toe-may-toe...
Avatar 7:20pm Mayuko:

@geezerette I hope my clients have been behaving themselves and are the ones of those get ruptured up there. Assuming I'll have to get left behind.
Avatar 7:21pm Flash Strap:

God Funkadelic + Eddie Hazel is just THE BESST
Avatar 7:22pm geezerette:

@Mayuko, I'm not going anywhere either! :)
Avatar 7:28pm geezerette:

Evan, we should know by election night if the party's on or off, right? Brilliant theme man.
Avatar 7:30pm Flash Strap:

I have to admit the debate really spurred me to finally complete this show idea which I've been toying with for a few months. Thanks, G
Avatar 7:34pm geezerette:

Have to admit, I've thought of "On The Beach" more than once lately.
Avatar 7:43pm Flash Strap:

"On The Beach" is one I don't have, which torments me
Avatar 7:44pm Flash Strap:

Unless we're talking about Neil Young
Avatar 7:45pm Flash Strap:

I love the Black Merda sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm listener james from westwood:

Ooh, was hoping we'd be hearing from Curtis.
Avatar 7:49pm Flash Strap:

I mean, it's sort of an obvious choice, but the sort of obvious where I'd be an asshole if I DIDN'T play it

it's so god damn god damn good
Avatar 7:50pm northguineahills:

amen, yeah!
Avatar 7:51pm geezerette:

SO good!!! :D
Avatar 7:51pm Flash Strap:

NGH in the hell house!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm listener james from westwood:

No excuse needed for that track! Play it in the middle of any show, for all of me!
Avatar 8:01pm Flash Strap:

Anybody heard this Boscoe LP? Whole thing is so heavy
Avatar 8:12pm Flash Strap:

Some INSANE synth on this
Avatar 8:12pm geezerette:

New to me but it's great.
I really love this 70s black empowerment/prophet category. Strong stufff.
Avatar 8:15pm coelacanth:

Avatar 8:26pm Flash Strap:

This is just such a great, weird example of a world-gone-wrong, earth-is-hell-itself theme
Avatar 8:27pm Flash Strap:

Hi Hyde! Rest well my brother
Avatar 8:29pm northguineahills:

Go Fish!
Avatar 8:30pm Flash Strap:

"recognize yourself there, big fella? FELLOW HUMAAAAN"

Avatar 8:36pm northguineahills:

ah, love the Last Poets.
Avatar 8:37pm Flash Strap:

then this set may please you, NGH
  8:41pm Churrorod:

Thank God for Sun Ra
Avatar 8:42pm Flash Strap:

With all due respect to Little Danny, who played this on his show just a couple weeks ago and without whom I'd never have heard it. I just had to play it tonight!
Avatar 8:43pm Flash Strap:

Thank Ra for Sun God
Avatar 8:44pm Flash Strap:

Kain was hitting Kipling pretty hard, now Jason Guy is coming for the rest of the imperialists
Avatar 8:45pm geezerette:

It's so sad that the crazy things we're living through;the deterioration of environment and problems caused by over population, were being written about, spoken about, nearly half a century ago and "we"let them happen anyway. Just context for this music...
Carter had solar panels on White House Roof,Reagan took them down.

Evan you're playing extraordinary things tonight!
Avatar 8:48pm geezerette:

The Last Poets were shamans for real.
Clear vision.
Avatar 8:49pm Flash Strap:

Thanks, G. I feel the same way, the music of this period is a portal to a future we decided not to pursue, to the detriment of all, particularly the precarious among us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lonnie Holley would work in here.
Avatar 8:51pm Flash Strap:

Hey Rev Rab! Love Lonnie Holley
Avatar 8:51pm geezerette:

The anger we're hearing is "righteous" anger.
Avatar 8:58pm Flash Strap:

It's pretty well-founded; if it's at times problematic from a certain perspective, that's usually irrelevant to the broader message and its context. I mean, the relatively mild Black Lives Matter is somehow a controversial movement in this country NOW. All the anger of the 70's seems pretty righteous in the face of this nation's persistent dragging of its feet on the way to an emancipatory future.
Avatar 9:02pm northguineahills:

@geezerette, all of the topics you mentioned were talked about 150 years ago (minus Carter's solar panels), nothing changes, or if it does, it does at a glacial pace, and then we slip back before 'progress' of sort is made.
Avatar 9:04pm Flash Strap:

That's why I like connecting this music to themes in 16-17th c. Flemish painting!
Avatar 9:04pm geezerette:

@NGH: Absolutely true.
Avatar 9:08pm northguineahills:

I'm not getting the Flemish slide show, daggnabbit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Founding Fathers were Slavers. It's foundational in the U.S. I'm afraid.
To address the national Crisis in Racial Injustice - it will have to be made a National Priority just as Civil Rights had to become in the 1960s. Seems to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Me either ngh.
Avatar 9:10pm Little Danny:

Thanks Flash! Wonderful - and insightful - to hear the Jason Guy in the context of yer show
Avatar 9:11pm coelacanth:

flemish slide show? i thought it was just a still illustration i was missing.
Avatar 9:11pm geezerette:

Vanitas. I'm a fan!

NGH & RevRab, not seeing it either! Thought it was just my laptop!
Avatar 9:15pm Flash Strap:

what it is
Avatar 9:16pm Flash Strap:

Don't worry all, it is a still image of a print made after Bosch
Avatar 9:16pm Flash Strap:

Thank YOU Danny
  9:16pm Churrorod:

I thought it was saying wu-tang for a long time
Avatar 9:17pm Flash Strap:

as a sidenote, one of the big publishers of Boschian and Bruegelian prints was named Hieronymus Cock
Avatar 9:18pm Flash Strap:

i love that, as a name
Avatar 9:18pm geezerette:

hahaha, :)
Avatar 9:27pm Flash Strap:

Boscoe's bassist has ideas, man
Avatar 9:29pm geezerette:

New to me, dig him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Uncle Michael:

Look at all the great fucking music I missed.
Avatar 9:34pm Flash Strap:

Uncle! Hello my friend!
Avatar 9:38pm Flash Strap:

Horace Andy has a VOICE

he has the sort of voice that is usually explained by antique microphone technology
Avatar 9:40pm just julia:

an angel voice! it truly moves me.
Avatar 9:41pm Flash Strap:

man, this has to be the best Bohannon LP
Avatar 9:41pm coelacanth:

Avatar 9:41pm Flash Strap:

just like an angel, exactly
Avatar 9:42pm quinn:

durn i missed some good stuff
Avatar 9:43pm Flash Strap:

Avatar 9:43pm geezerette:

agree, gorgeous!
Avatar 9:44pm quinn:

durning so hard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Alex In Illinois:

So the small circle with a horizontal bar, like a green "Do not enter-wrong way" sign is some sort of Flemmish art?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm JtotheK:

good evening everyone. playlist looks terrific, looking forward to checking out what i missed via the archives...
Avatar 9:46pm Flash Strap:

Hi Alex! You got it

Hi J2K!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Uncle Michael:

Evan, do you know that your playlist image is only visible to people logged into Google?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Alex In Illinois:

So I have to use that Google Chrome which runs absurdly slow on Windows 10?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Uncle Michael:

No, you can use any browser but it's a broken image if you're not logged into a google account.
Avatar 9:49pm Mayuko:

Finally finished some work and time for dinner. Thank you for helping me stay productive with the music, Evan! Good night all!
Avatar 9:51pm geezerette:

G'night Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Alex In Illinois:

But I am logged in to my Google account. I just now checked my Google+ messages in another tab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm JtotheK:

Agreed Flash Strap - that Bohannon 'Stop and Go' LP is terrific.
Avatar 9:53pm geezerette:

Incredible show Evan!
  9:53pm Dean:

I'm on a frigging Chromebook and the image is that icon that looks like an aspirin. Say what?! I just tuned in and it's over?! Dammit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, no asperin for me till I logged into Google.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Evan. I'm going to have to go to the archives for this one.
Avatar 9:55pm Flash Strap:

@UM: that sucks and is also weird
Avatar 9:55pm Flash Strap:

about the image i mean
Avatar 9:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Flash!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Alex In Illinois:

Yes, an aspirin, or a Do Not Enter Icon, or the top of a screw head. Maybe others can come with other ideas about what it looks like.
  9:57pm Dean:

Oh, so image = aspirin. Google-authorized aspirin. The world is odd.
Avatar 9:57pm northguineahills:

Faved episode!
Avatar 9:57pm coelacanth:

- a goat eyeball.
Avatar 9:57pm Flash Strap:

Thanks all for listening!! I loved doing this one, happy if you liked hearing it
Avatar 9:58pm northguineahills:

UM, I'm logged into google w/ this browser, and I still can't see it.
Avatar 9:58pm Little Danny:

Astoundingly great ep, Evan
  9:58pm Dean:

One man's aspirin is another's screw head.

To a man with an aspirin everything looks like a hangover.

To a man with a screw head everything looks like...er, I dunno.
Avatar 9:58pm geezerette:

click-starred!!! :D
Avatar 9:59pm Little Danny:

Party next door: wfmu.org... The world is invited!
Avatar 10:01pm coelacanth:

Thanks Evan!
