Listener comments!
9:06am : Morning, nice start, especially digging this Ellis track! (pretty tunes help these days).9:09am : good morning bob and djazz9:12am : Good Morning Annie!9:13am : Hey Bob! Miss Saturday morning in J.C. I'm out of range now a days, but still locked in tight 9-11.9:13am : Good morning! Great openers.9:15am : Bob, thanks for being there throughout the years.
Your soundtrack gives us sustenance.
We need you now more than ever!9:17am : Morning Bob and similar Brainiacs.
The ducks are back in the creek, after the thaw.9:21am : Soothing songs. Hey all. Now saturday is going to go just right.9:22am : That Rusape Jews of Zimbabwe track was cool.🥁 9:24am : Morning Bob and all. Or is it mourning?9:26am : YESSS! need these. Thank you. great grounding and priming. Fore I head out to the march9:26am : *this9:28am : Donald Byrd did some fine stuff (before he went fusion...I know that statement can generate some heat).9:28am : Good morning, all,
Turned the alarm off at 8:30 and just got up. Never a good thing to miss a big chunk of Bob's2 hours.9:29am : Byrd gets me ready to FLYYYY!!!9:30am : always loved that one, what a line up and what an energy9:42am : Dr. Jazz, Byrd returned to real jazz again in the 90s, put out some nice albums--"A City Called Heaven," "Getting Down to Business," and "Harlem Blues" are all good. He's got very good bands on those records, too. (My apologies if you're already familiar with this stuff.)9:48am : Mark R, no need to apologize, I do know that he "returned to the fold", so to speak. I don't actually have a problem with fusion, Miles, for instance, had a great version of it. Some versions of fusion maintained the energy and didn't dumb it down. Some did. Some made up for it with a soulfulness or other strengths. Just ornery, in the mood to pick a fight, I guess, don't take it too seriously (stuck at work as well...)9:48am : wow, cool history to the Rusape Jews. They were "discovered" by an ex-Slave from the USA, William S. Crowdy, who settled in Newark: en.wikipedia.org... en.wikipedia.org... Today I learned9:51am : I just didn't want to be pedantic. I agree with you about Byrd's fusion period vs. Miles. Love early Weather Report, hate "Birdland." Etc. I'm sure we're pretty much on the same page. The original Mahavishnu Orchestra was a cold-blooded motherfucker of a band, maybe instrumentally the most talented band ever.9:55am : I'm with you, Mahavishnu was intense, early Weather Report was quite exploratory.
Great Dizzy (who was a "fusion" artist of the first class!)9:58am : g'morning9:59am : Sun Ra never ceases to surprise me.9:59am : ...nice work Bob Brainen!...🥁 10:00am : Bob, you made me dig out my copy of L&C Exp. I want to like this album, but it's short on good tunes.10:04am : 1967 Half Century observations should really make vivd how - though '66 is widely exalted as TheeYear - '67's full technicolor blooming of Rawk was simply singularly awesome.10:33am : Loving the NRBQ box, great stuff.🥁 10:53am : My fave Pentangle LP. Yes! Good to hear.10:53am : Aw. I missed that great Red Allen track, great Pentangle, though.11:00am : Thanks, fun show
