I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Webhamster Henry:

Will we have to do these exercises?
Avatar 11:37am Mayuko:

Happy 2018 to you, Henry!!! Yes! This is how we bring new year with healthy spirit despite crappy stuff going on out there!
Avatar 12:00pm fred:

Happy 2018 Mayuko and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Good afternoon, Mayuko and all, and happy 2018! I've already been to the gym, but if I need to stretch or bend in time, I'll let these singers lead the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Ivan:

Happy new year Mayuko, Everyone! 今年もよろしく!
Avatar 12:06pm Sem:

I'm exhausted just looking at that chart. Hello, and good afternoon, Mayuko, the Vertiginous.
Avatar 12:06pm fred:

Nice YMO track. Booking for Ryuichi Sakamoto's March show in Paris is supposed to open tomorrow. I hope I can get a ticket
Avatar 12:07pm northguineahills:

Time for happy new beers, oh, and happy new year Mayuko!
Avatar 12:07pm Mayuko:

Happy new year, fred, james, Ivan, and Sem!!! Glad to have you all here for my first 2018 radio voyage!
  12:08pm P-90:

Happy 2018 @DJ Mayuko and V-Players!
Are you broadcasting from the Play Vertigo Studio in Brooklyn today?
  12:08pm Jeff g.:

Hello, @Mayuko, and the vertiginous.

I should resolve this year to see at least half as many shows as @fred.
Avatar 12:10pm fred:

I vaguely remember reading that the father of a member of Daft Punk was involved in the Yamasuki record
Avatar 12:12pm Mayuko:

Happy new year, northguineahills! Hallos P-90, yes, from this tiny Play Vertigo Studio, staying away from dirty snowy sidewalk, thank god.
Great to have you here, Jeff G! Happy 2018!!!
Avatar 12:13pm Mayuko:

@fred yeah! that's what I read too. one of two Yamasuki people is dad of Daft Punk.
Avatar 12:15pm fred:

@Jeff G: it's not that hard, I've been slowing down as I get older. By now I have to include dance shows to hit 100 a year
Avatar 12:16pm northguineahills:

Faust cover!
  12:18pm rw:

Hey! I guess I missed the morning exercise routine. Glad to be here though. Hope everyone is doing well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm listener james from westwood:

I've already lost a pound this year, so I'm calling my physical routine since last Monday a win.
Avatar 12:19pm Mayuko:

Yes! I love this Faust song and this cover is cool too!!!
  12:21pm rw:

100 shows a year?? At this point I’d feel good about 100 shows a decade.
Avatar 12:23pm fred:

Seeing that the cover was from 1980 made me look at the original's release date. I didn't realize that song was so old
Avatar 12:24pm Brian in UK:

All aboard the HMS Vertigo. Cast off Mister Mate. It will be a long voyage, many months until we see land again. Where is the ship's cat? Ah how did it get up there in the crows nest.
  12:25pm rbrt:

happy new year everyone:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Permission to come aboard? Got to keep the decks swabbed.
Avatar 12:28pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, rw, Brian, and rbrt! Happy to have you all!
  12:28pm JakeGould:

Avatar 12:28pm Mayuko:

Happy 2018, Ken!!
Avatar 12:29pm Mayuko:

Hey JakeGould!! I wonder how our stray cat neighbors doing in this snow?!?!
  12:33pm JakeGould:

@Mayuko: Ha! They should (mostly) be fine since so many people care about them. But yeah, I wonder too…
  12:33pm Jeff g.:

(revises resolution to read, "see 1/10th of the shows @fred sees.")
  12:38pm Ike:

Excellent sounds! Hi all!
Avatar 12:39pm Mayuko:

If I go see one show per month I'd call it a huge accomplishment...!
Avatar 12:39pm Mayuko:

Happy new year, Ike!
Avatar 12:41pm fred:

This Beau Wanzer track was great
Avatar 12:43pm Mayuko:

@fred yeah! it was so hard to pick one track! will probably play other tracks from that album in my future shows.
Avatar 12:49pm fred:

This (Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe) could be the soundtrack to a Pipilotti Rist video
Avatar 12:49pm Brian in UK:

I guess living in the city makes going to concerts (gigs) more accessible. When I worked in London I was out much more frequently, but that was many years ago before children. (BC).
I wonder what is the etymology of GIG. Is it short for giggle?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Fall swag arrived today. I can express my affection for turtles openly now.
Avatar 12:54pm Mayuko:

@fred or some footage videos of deep sea creatures or something.
Avatar 12:55pm Mayuko:

People use GIG for work related stuff too, right? It is a funny word. So it's "gig" for the people who perform?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Webhamster Henry:

I like how mechanical it's sounding today.
  1:01pm rbrt:

I love this calisthenics chart
Avatar 1:04pm fred:

"the wonderful world of the Yamasuki" No idea what Yamasuki is supposed to mean
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm melinda:

hi people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm tmoyo:

woke up in the dead of the night here, and popping in to say happy new year!
Avatar 1:07pm Brian in UK:

Hello melinda.

If it is on the radio how do they know....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm listener james from westwood:

Bits of your past and your experience of it are one of the reasons I tune in! Always love hearing DJs' lives amid the music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm listener james from westwood:

It is a very good sky over NY and NJ for opening up one's chest. But maybe from indoors. So damn cold!
Avatar 1:12pm Brian in UK:

Was it Yamasuki that was difficult to understand. The Cocteau Twins made up their own language? No in this case though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm listener james from westwood:

HOW have I never heard this utterly charming Cocteaus cover?
Avatar 1:13pm northguineahills:

I'm echoing james' sentiment, it's insane I've never heard that Cocteau Twins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm paul b:

Hey we did calisthenics in the morning too when I was in elementary school in Manomet Massachusetts. Of course that was a while back now. The past is, as they say, a foreign country.
  1:13pm Rickwaukee:

Sadly, I cannot hear this song without thinking of a parody of it I once heard called 'Walking 'round in Women's Underwear'
Avatar 1:13pm Brian in UK:

james it was made for the fan club Christmas record.
Avatar 1:14pm Mayuko:

Happy new year, melinda, and tmoyo!!! So glad to have two here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm listener james from westwood:

@Brian: Ah, that would explain it!

@Mayuko: Loving this bit of 80s music right here!
Avatar 1:17pm Brian in UK:

james Fake news. It was the issue of all the Beatles Christmas fan club records just now that made me write that.
Avatar 1:19pm fred:

Is that Omni track really from last year? It sounded like a reissue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm listener james from westwood:

LOL, it sounded truthy, as Stephen Colbert might have put it!
Avatar 1:20pm Brian in UK:

I will go and do a penance.
Avatar 1:21pm fred:

This Triple Fire track is pretty great
Avatar 1:22pm northguineahills:

In the mornings on the way to school, I'd see school kids in the school yard doing calisthenics, as well workers at their factory lots doing the same (The first 1.5 years there I had to wake up really early to get to school.
Avatar 1:22pm Brian in UK:

I saw A Hard Days Night over Christmas possibly for the first time, the thing that struck me most was their seeming lack of cynicism.
Avatar 1:23pm northguineahills:

(We lived across the street from a small factory and on a hill above another, and a few blocks from a primary school).
  1:23pm Barnaby:

wow, great song
  1:26pm Rickwaukee:

My fave TH album
Avatar 1:30pm Mayuko:

I usually don't play that many short tracks so getting behind comment here, haha! Happy new year, paul B, Rickwaukee and Barnaby!! Thank you for tuning in!
Avatar 1:30pm Brian in UK:

Many children nowadays are taken to skool in cars. I used to walk about 1 1/2 miles to Primary skool. No big deal but it kept me healthy. Then lots of sport and running around at break.

Mayuko great mix of old and new.
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

Rickwaukee, I went to Milwaukee for the first time in my ilfe on the new year day! Though only several hours! That's how I started my 2018.
Avatar 1:32pm Mayuko:

Thanks Brian!

And yeah that Omni sounds like reissue but I think they're touring now. Found them in the WFMU library's new bin and I don't know much about them yet myself.
Avatar 1:34pm Mayuko:

This is a dance party song! from Okinawa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Webhamster Henry:

The Okinawa shuffle-beat is unmistakable.
Avatar 1:36pm fred:

I love that Seijin Noborikawa & Rinsho Kadekaru song! (of course, Okinawa...)
I hope the Omni tour will stop nearby
  1:36pm Rickwaukee:

Mayuko: OMG! Did you come here for the Polar Bear plunge into Lake Michigan? You would not have seen me there! Sorry I missed you.
Avatar 1:40pm fred:

This Fraternidade Kayman is great too. The only reason I'm not clicky-starring this show is that I already did
Avatar 1:43pm Brian in UK:

Mayuko great show. Got a date with a skate, fish that is.
Peaceful New Year everyone.
Avatar 1:44pm fred:

The voice at the start of this Oguchi Daihachi track was wonderful. The rest is looking pretty gret too
Avatar 1:47pm Mayuko:

Have a great weekend, Brian!
Avatar 1:47pm fred:

This Minyo track is great too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Doug Schulkind:

I've been working and lurking. Great, great show, Mayuko!
Avatar 1:50pm Mayuko:

That sounds like what I should have done there, Rickwaukee! I only went to the modern art museum by the lake and the time was up. It was beautiful there and the stuff they had there were great though!
Avatar 1:52pm Mayuko:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm listener james from westwood:

Doug! Worker, lurker, but never a shirker.
Avatar 1:53pm fred:

Doug! Go nail that final semester!
Avatar 1:54pm Sem:

Had a fine time listening along, Mayuko. Thanks, and I hope to hear you again next time.
Avatar 1:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Mayuko, enjoy the weekend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm listener james from westwood:

many thanks, Mayuko!
  1:57pm Rickwaukee:

You were only a mile from where they jumped in then. They also had kite flying lakeside that day in that cold! Come back soon. In June. See the moon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Mayuko. Are you breaking camp to attend the WFMU dance party this evening?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Scraps:

Grrr. Just woke up
  1:58pm rbrt:

human core energy!
  2:00pm Rickwaukee:

I was digging the mysterious quiet bit that played just before EN started singing.
  2:00pm rbrt:

bandcamp is a super site
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks! Since I am working tomorrow, today is my last real day of rest until the semester begins. I am defiantly still in my pajamas.
  2:03pm Rickwaukee:

Thanks, Mayuko, for more ears workout. Dance like nobody's President!
Avatar 2:04pm fred:

Thanks Mayuko, this was a great show, even by your own lofty standard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Webhamster Henry:

I was going to come in for the party - but the idea of standing in the PATH station freezing at 2AM is putting me off.
  2:07pm rbrt:

come on let's go!
  2:07pm rbrt:

thanks Mayuko, have a great weekend!
Avatar 2:07pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee I'd love to go back there, definitely when it's warmer than that!!!
Avatar 2:08pm Mayuko:

Scraps!! HAPPY 2018 TO YOU!
Avatar 2:10pm Mayuko:

Thanks again everyone for listening, it was wonderful to have you all with me starting 2018! See you next week!!!
  9:15pm JakeGould:

Hey Mayuko! Just dug up these two articles on the feral cat colony in Sunset Park. They dumped part of the colony near me! “In recent weeks, cages were placed throughout the complex baited with food to catch the felines, which were then released in Leif Ericson Park in Bay Ridge and Marine Park, according to Weinles.”
