I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar 12:07pm Sem:

Hello, Mayuko, all.
Avatar 12:08pm Mayuko:

I'd welcome non-heart beaters too if I could have them, Yvang! Thanks for tuning in!
Hallos Rickwaukee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm playing the show via Bluetooth onto the TV's soundbar and the subwoofer is really kicking in on this track!
Avatar 12:08pm Mayuko:

Good afternoon, Sem!

★ this Mallets & Marbles
  12:09pm rbrt:

Howdy everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Doug Schulkind:

What a gorgeous place to be this is!
Avatar 12:15pm david w:

Yes! A perfect soundtrack to the housecleaning I am doing!
Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

Hi rbrt! Glad you guys are digging Sapphire Slows. It's really nice to have such cool track created by a Japanese woman.

& Hello Doug & David! So glad to have you Drummer comrades here!!!!
Avatar 12:20pm Mayuko:

Buncha Japanese women in this set actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm listener james from westwood:

I am thankful to have such a great guide sharing their musical offerings w/ us all!
Avatar 12:23pm northguineahills:

Afternoons! Aww, missed Ikue! (I had to reboot).

I usually clean during Mayuko's show too.
  12:28pm rbrt:

guess everyone has end of the week chores
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm redkayak:

Howdy everyone :)
Avatar 12:29pm Brian in UK:

Hello Mayuko. Our daughter would like this pulsing as she is a perfusionist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm listener james from westwood:

@rbrt: Proofreading, here. Play Vertigo has always been a great complement to editorial work.
Avatar 12:31pm fred:

Midori Takada then Steve Reich! This segue makes so much sense
Avatar 12:32pm northguineahills:

Classic Reich....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Any US residents with MLK Day off on Monday, there's fee admission to national park sites: www.nps.gov...
  12:35pm Rickwaukee:

What an unfortunate typo, Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Oh dear. Proofreading, indeed.
Avatar 12:38pm Mayuko:

@james *I'm* thankful to YOU for your always great support for the drummer stream!

Hi northguineahills ! I feel like I hear a lot that people clean their houses during my show. I wonder if it's me or the time slot.

Hellos redkayak, glad to have you here!
Hi Brian! I didn't know "perfusionist". now I see it's really specific occupation! fascinating.
Avatar 12:44pm david w:

I'd listen anytime, anywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm redkayak:

@Mayuko - Ahoy Captain - just paddling around the ice floes :)
  12:46pm rbrt:

interesting I didn't know what a perfusionist was
Avatar 12:46pm fred:

Also, I did manage to get a ticket for the Ryuichi Sakamoto set in March last week. Both days were sold out real quick, I was right to rush to get one
  12:47pm rbrt:

pretty important during surgery!
  12:47pm rbrt:

fred that should be great
Avatar 12:48pm Brian in UK:

Mayuko you never see one because you are always asleep when you get to theatre.

fred you got to be quick well done.
  12:49pm Rickwaukee:

a bit too small - I had to crank it up some
  12:49pm Jesse k:

I just ate potato chips for breakfast
  12:50pm rbrt:

oh different bed music
  12:50pm rbrt:

I like eating odd things for breakfast sometimes lol
  12:51pm Rickwaukee:

It is not only modern art, although it has a modern 10 million dollar Calatrava addition
Avatar 12:53pm fred:

I'm very biased, but Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's choreography has changed the way I hear Steve Reich's music, for the better (for me)
  12:54pm rbrt:

I like how you always call him stevie lol
Avatar 1:02pm Mayuko:

@fred ah! is that async tour?
Avatar 1:04pm Brian in UK:

I feel like I am being aurally tickled.
Avatar 1:04pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee thanks! I'll try YELL in the next mic break.
You're right, I did see some old stuff there too. I loved their folk art collection. Now I want to start collecting fish and bird decoys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: I'm also editing a college textbook about art, and I was interested to see how many of the pieces were in the collections of museums across the Midwest, like the one you visited in Milwaukee. I'm also very psyched to be heading to Chicago in April, where I'll be staying only a few blocks from both that huge Picasso sculpture near the municipal building and the Art Institute of Chicago!
  1:08pm Rickwaukee:

@Mayuko Some old decoys are VERY valuable. What was the name of that artist you mentioned? Started with G? I'm trying to search Milwaukee Art Museum website for image(s)
Avatar 1:09pm fred:

@Mayuko: I guess it's related, but not a tour exactly. He's doing a performance with Shiro Takatani from Dumb Type. I loved async, so I'm eager to hear/see what this will be like
Avatar 1:12pm fred:

I really like this Sakai ishinage odori hozon-ka
Avatar 1:13pm Mayuko:

@james I haven't been to the art institute of Chicago, would be really nice to go there again in a warmer time.
Avatar 1:14pm Mayuko:

I realized I had gone on talking a lot about the Come Out piece and never really describe what it looked like! it's a painting repeating the phrases from come out. 11pt5z46nuudt9qxx2knwgff-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com...
  1:15pm Rickwaukee:

Is this fella singing about Mayuko - he just said her name!
Avatar 1:16pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee ah! I'd take small replica decoys then. The piece I really liked there was Robert Gober's suitcase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm redkayak:

@mayuko speaking of such things (decoys, etc) if I ever hit the lottery I might buy some of this guys salmon flies! www.sebastianletelier.cl...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm redkayak:

One can get into collecting decoys etc w/o spending a ton of $ also.... It's a pretty interesting world. A guy I used to work with was really into to it....
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee This song might be singing about me and also it is from the prefecture I was born!

@redkayak oh wowww! those are really beautiful! Makes me wanna put them in a box like they do with insects in boxes at museums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm redkayak:

@mayuko - - that guy does wonderful work. I sure as heck wouldn't throw it in the water to catch a fish :)
Avatar 1:20pm fred:

Dance version: www.youtube.com...
(Piano Phase/Come Out/Violin Phase/Clapping Music)
Come Out is 22 minutes in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: I'm crossing my fingers that late April will indeed be a warm-enough time. The conference planners pushed the date forward from late March out of snow fears, but these winters recently, who the hell knows what we'll see 'round the start of May in the Windy City?
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

@fred dance performance piece makes so much more sense to me if a piece of art is made based on/using his music. I'll watch it after this show!
  1:25pm Rickwaukee:

Early May, Chicago, could be 43 degrees, could be 83
  1:28pm Rickwaukee:

In this Gober piece we see the man who lost his suitcase? http://lexiecicale.weebly.com/uploads/2/4/6/5/24659046/3615545_orig.jpg
Avatar 1:38pm fred:

This Mitsuko Noka song was beautiful
It's not Steve Reich, but this is one of my fave De Keersmaeker pieces (and it features my favorite dancer ever, Cynthia Loemij): www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm coelacanth∅:

hi Mayuko! i've been listening but talking and cooking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Ike:

Afternoon, all you hippies, punks, squares, dirtbags, cable repair gals, electrical hedgehogs, floozies, freaks, flunkies, and flip-floppers.
Avatar 1:39pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee Haha! very possibly! everything is connected in his world across time and space, it seems.
Avatar 1:40pm Mayuko:

@fred that Mitsuko Noka was stuff from Okinawa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm listener james from westwood:

BTW, in the outside world, Hawaii officials just had to issue a denial regarding a smartphone emergency alert folks on the islands got that a MISSILE was incoming. No missile, false alarm, incredible fuck-up, and yet par for the friggin' course in this bizarre time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm coelacanth∅:

Ike you forgot muswell hill dinosaur herders
Avatar 1:43pm Mayuko:

Thanks for stopping by here, coelacanth∅!
Hellos Ike. Those are some nice audiences for WFMU!
  1:44pm Rickwaukee:

I do love me some Portuguese - I think it's my favorite language
Avatar 1:45pm fred:

Okinawa?! It didn't have the usual rhythm. If I ever get time and money at the same time, looks like I really should go there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Ike:

Hey! I just found out fellow commenter Rev. Turnip Druid (a.k.a. C. Hawkins) is playing shows in NYC tonight and tomorrow night. I strongly recommend! I'll have to get to that Trans-Pecos show tomorrow night. chesterhawkins.org...
  1:48pm mzzm:

tuning in late this week
Avatar 1:49pm fred:

@Ike: Enjoy! (I'm so jealous). He did play in Paris a few years ago, but I only heard about it way after the fact
Avatar 1:49pm Mayuko:

@fred that was from a collection of very old, ritual/prayer kind of songs according to the booklet. I need to learn more about this stuff myself.
Avatar 1:51pm Mayuko:

Oh, I'll have to go to Bushwick tomorrow anyway, maybe I can actually stop by Trans-Pecos.

Good afternoon, mzzm!!
  1:52pm mzzm:

i read book by Med Examiner said smokers' lungs at the end stage often like darkned styrofoam sometimes literally cracks with sound.
Avatar 1:53pm Mayuko:

@james god that's terrible news re: false alert!!
Avatar 1:53pm Sem:

Altogether a fine, fine listen this PM, Mayuko, everything you played was new-to-me. Thank you, and hope to hear you again next time, w/ the usual company attending. Bye!
  1:55pm rbrt:

this Islaja sounds bjorkish
  1:59pm mzzm:

I found 具志堅 was really common name over there. Every store fronts seemed had its name. funny sight thou.
  2:02pm mzzm:

according to https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%85%B7%E5%BF%97%E5%A0%85 "具志堅家 - 琉球王国の氏族" explains it
  2:03pm Rickwaukee:

Welp, back into the freezer - Stay warm, everyone. Another superior Saturday show - I bow low, Mayuko.
  2:04pm rbrt:

japan uses a different calendar?
Avatar 2:05pm fred:

Thanks Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Mayuko! Stay warm!
Avatar 2:07pm Mayuko:

Thank you Sem for kind words!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Nice show today, Mayuko. Stay alert for incoming snowfall later this week!
Avatar 2:08pm Mayuko:

@rbrt I actually thought the same thing, Bjork and also Arca, who she's been working with recently. Maybe that style is becoming a trend or something?
Avatar 2:09pm Mayuko:

@mzzm Yah! 具志堅 is def one of those last names!
Avatar 2:09pm Mayuko:

Thanks again everyone for listening! See you next week!!
  2:10pm rbrt:

thanks Mayuko! see ya!
