I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar 12:02pm Mayuko:

Sorry, having trouble playing track here! Will start soon!
  12:04pm Rickwaukee:

"Bird with Sanitary Wipe" - Edgar Ende, 2018
Avatar 12:05pm Mayuko:

Is it on?
  12:06pm Rickwaukee:

I'm hearing Indian - that it?
Avatar 12:06pm fred:

Good afternoon Mayuko and listeners. I'm still hearing Indian music. WFMU has a long and proud tradition of technical difficulties
Avatar 12:07pm Mayuko:

Should sound more like someone groaning than Indian, as usual for my show.
  12:07pm Rickwaukee:

If not Indian, Persian - now Dixie
Avatar 12:08pm fred:

It's still the drumbot
Avatar 12:08pm Mayuko:

I can't even connect my device to the internet to monitor the stream now, trying to check.
Avatar 12:09pm Mayuko:

Now I see. That is more fun sounding music than someone groaning, indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, all! Hanging in on this side; sorry the machinery is acting oddly, Mayuko!
Avatar 12:11pm Mayuko:

I"ll go check studio B and see if I can try there. So sorry for the delay!
Avatar 12:12pm fred:

We want Groans not Fun! When do we want it? Now! That "we" may be overstating things, though. Read "I" instead
  12:12pm Gary via app:

Hey there! I’m listening on my way in to the station
Avatar 12:12pm Dave B:

23 skidoo!
Avatar 12:14pm fred:

Is that Gary as in Bodega Pop Gary?
Avatar 12:14pm Mayuko:

Two votes for groans than fun!!!!!!!!

  12:16pm Gary via app:

For some reason I thought Mayuko was broadcasting from home these days
Avatar 12:17pm fred:

@Gary: That cambodian solo voice recoring you posted is so beautiful! Many thanks for that
Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

@Gary I am, but unfortunately I thought I'd do it from studio C today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Stanley:

The Curse of the GTDR Saturday slot strikes again!
Avatar 12:18pm Sem:

Hiya, Mayuko, Vertigo-getters, random arrivees, all remaining categories.
  12:19pm Gary via app:

Of course, Fred! Hopefully B will work for you, M
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm paul b:

As Ian MacKaye once sang "I am a patient boy I wait I wait I wait...I don't want the news I cannot use it"
Avatar 12:22pm fred:

Did Jeff manage to fix the issue last time?
@Mayuko: One workaround could be to use your computer to pretend to do a remote broadcast even though you're at the station
  12:24pm northguineahills:

Listening from my bro's house in Orlando. Picked up the missus last night, about to drive back to Gainesville. Cheers y OOOs, Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm listener james from westwood:

Whoa—music changed; we might be on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm listener james from westwood:

Went from soul to organ instrumental!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm listener james from westwood:

Oops, back to soul!
  12:34pm Rickwaukee:

No worries, Mayuko, we all know it's out of your hands and we are all cursing technology's curve ball together with you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm listener james from westwood:

Now back to organ; will let this play out
Avatar 12:35pm Mayuko:

yeah! I think it's working now.
Avatar 12:35pm Dave B:

Avatar 12:36pm fred:

I hope the stream stays with groans from now on. Fun is overrated
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm listener james from westwood:

There's that groaning!
Avatar 12:36pm Mayuko:

Ok here we go with the groaning.
Avatar 12:38pm Jeff Moore:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Yvang:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm listener james from westwood:

"OK, here we go with the groaning" should be one of the slogans that comes up on the WFMU home page.
Avatar 12:42pm fred:

@ljfw: are you using the old home page? I don't see these on the current one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Doug Schulkind:

So sorry about the tech gremlins, Mayuko!
Avatar 12:45pm fred:

This was worth the wait
Avatar 12:47pm Mayuko:

Hi everyone, thank you for waiting and glad to have you all here!!!!!!!
Avatar 12:47pm Jesse Kaminsky:

worth the wait, hi Mayuko!
Avatar 12:49pm Mayuko:

Glad it's working now otherwise I would have kicked RIch out of here in the middle of his project for no reason and that would have been bad! He was so kind to switch studios.
Avatar 12:49pm Mayuko:

Hi Jesse! Thank you for the wait!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm coelacanth∅:

hi Mayuko and Mayuklings - i tuned in twice before to something distinctly not Mayukish; i'm glad i tried again now this is fab!
Avatar 12:52pm fred:

Someone should look into this tech issue before the marathon (and that's coming soon)
Avatar 12:54pm Mayuko:

Yes if it sounds more fun music rather than someone groaning, then probably that is not my show, coelacanth∅! Glad to have you back here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm coelacanth∅:

one of my favorite Saties!
Avatar 1:00pm fred:

I didn't expect Satie right there, but it does work. A great DJ at work
  1:01pm P-90:

Sounds fine now @Mayuko DJ! Maybe broadcasting from the Mukluk Fusing Studio in Brooklyn is more technically reliable than from the Jersey City Radio Shed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm coelacanth∅:

Mayuko i wont say i don't have fun listening to your shows. they're not not fun, though maybe sometimes dark.
...i'm good at dark.
Avatar 1:02pm Mayuko:

Sorry for skipping No.2, I was more in the mood for 3, haha.
  1:03pm Ike:

Hooray, sounds good! So am I allowed to grunt instead of groaning?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Play Vertigo is NOT NOT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm coelacanth∅:

heh, because #2's not as dark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm coelacanth∅:

(really, "sad" -not dark)
  1:07pm Gary via app:

Hey there — are you able to buzz me in?
Avatar 1:09pm fred:

@coel: I find Mayuko's show uplifting. Then again, at work they had people give emotional labels to songs, and they didn't agree. But what one rated "sexy" correlated very strongly to what another rated "bizarre"
  1:09pm JakeGould:

Hey Mayuko!
  1:10pm Gary via app:

Front door is locked and no one is picking up — is there anyone who can come downstairs and open? Sorry!
Avatar 1:11pm Mayuko:

@Gary I'm trying to figure this phone thing out but it's not opening the door. I'll come downstairs during the next track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm coelacanth∅:

i'd buzz you in Gary but you're not here
Avatar 1:17pm Mayuko:

@fred @1:00 (full disclosure: playing satie along with SFT is a total rip-off idea of Derek Jarman)
  1:18pm melinda:

Hi mayuko and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mayuko and vertigo players. Where is the year going so soon? Next week is Verti Gras already, the celebration of dizziness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm coelacanth∅:

fred absolutely
- even when some tracks are dark, which i don't think is that much of the time...dark can work toward uplifting in context.
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

@P-90 I should have gone with Mukluk Fusing for my DJ name. & hallos!
  1:19pm P-90:

"Verti Gras"!
  1:19pm Gary via app:

Thank you!
  1:21pm Jeff g. via app:

I'll just buzz myself in. Howdy.
Avatar 1:21pm fred:

@Mayuko: you still had to know when to pull off that move. I stand by my point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Yvang:

La Fura Dels Baus, they are (were?) producing incredible shows!
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

@Ike I've been told I grunt too much in conversations, so I think you're allowed too.
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

Hola Jake!
Avatar 1:24pm Mayuko:

Hi melinda, Ken and Jeff!!!!
Avatar 1:24pm fred:

I like this a lot
Avatar 1:25pm Mayuko:

@Yvang oh wow! did you get to see their show?! I didn't even know them until I got this compilation, so good.
  1:26pm JakeGould:

Hey! For anyone near Sunset Park, there is a report of a sick opossum on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 62nd Street. Be safe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Yvang:

I saw two show a long long time ago; One was about fascism and the other about birth! No stage : the comedians, singers, musicians were among the audience with their terrifying props, running in the crowd with chainsaws (without the chain but still the noise)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm coelacanth∅:

fred (@1.09 again) that different people would call the same music either sexy or bizarre doesn't surprise me. some people are so uncomfortable with sexiness that it's bizarre to them; and even more so when it's in public or amongst others.
... i wouldn't like that job much. i have a tough time labeling music in general; sometimes i find it impossible.
Avatar 1:30pm Dave B:

See ya later alligator. I got some chores to handle!
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

See you lata, Dave B!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Will you be at The Road movie tonight, Mayuko. I'm bringing carrot cake cupcakes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm ⓔⓘⓚ:

@Jake, is that from the Citizen app? That app looks awesome. Unfortunately it doesn't support iPhone 5. Bleh!
  1:39pm JakeGould:

@Ike: Yup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm melinda:

@coel that makes sense. Then again, I like to imagine that some people are turned on by the kind of music that makes others pull over to see why their car is making unusual noises.

Was watching film of the Beatles 1st concert in US and the quality was horrible! - but thought of how close it was to not having ANY footage at all, which would be very strange
Avatar 1:46pm fred:

As a Pats fan, I agree with the idea of not talking about this Superbowl
  1:46pm Rickwaukee:

Prince was projected on a large 120ft high fluttering fabric - strange "I would die 4U" song choice
Avatar 1:48pm fred:

La Tène! You should check out La Novia
Avatar 1:50pm Mayuko:

Wait, was Prince also 120ft tall in the screen?
Avatar 1:50pm Brian in UK:

Hello Mayuko. did I miss anything!!
Avatar 1:50pm Mayuko:

@Yvang ha! that looks intense!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm coelacanth∅:

melinda i know as fact about someone pulling over to see what the problem was when a certain music was making the sound!
Avatar 1:51pm Mayuko:

@fred La Novia is an artist?
Avatar 1:52pm Mayuko:

@Brian Welcome! you missed technical glitches and me spilling coffee.
  1:53pm Rickwaukee:

Closer to 200ft https://media.nbcnewyork.com/images/1200*675/princetimber.jpg
Avatar 1:53pm Mayuko:

Ken, there are two birthdays tonight that I'm celebrating and have to miss the meet-up unfortunately! Carrot cupcakes sounds so good! I love carrot cakes!!!
Avatar 1:54pm Brian in UK:

Mayuko no sweeteners in the coffee I trust. Are Technical Glitches an American group?
Avatar 1:54pm fred:

It's a collective of musicians mixing traditional and experimental music: www.la-novia.fr Yann Gourdon (hurdy-gurdy hero) is a member
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm listener james from westwood:

@Brian, if the Hoof and Mouth Sinfonia weren't already named that, WFMU's house band absolutely would have to take that name.
Avatar 1:57pm Brian in UK:

james I guess you will be putting in some hours during the marathon?
Avatar 1:57pm fred:

My nephew is said to make a killer carrot cake
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm melinda:

@coel that's why I mentioned it, as it is a known WFMU listening phenomenon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm ⓔⓘⓚ:

I didn't see it, but it sounds bizarrely stupid and retrograde that the offensive Prince "hologram" wasn't even actually a hologram, just a dopey projection. It's like all those things that were fake-ass "VR" in the late 90s.
Avatar 1:59pm Mayuko:

@Rickwaukee ugh! no one should be enlarged more than 10 ft!
Avatar 2:00pm Brian in UK:

You would never think that putting carrot and cake together would work but it does. Better than banana bread.
Avatar 2:00pm Mayuko:

@fred cool, I'll check them out! also, please send your nephew here during the marathon as a volunteer food supplier.
Avatar 2:01pm Brian in UK:

The Return of the Fifty Foot Woman was a funny film.
Avatar 2:03pm Mayuko:

It's terrible it wasn't even a real hologram! so disappointing.
  2:03pm JakeGould:

“The Incredible Shrinking Man”
“The Return of the 50 Foot Woman”

Makes you think!
Avatar 2:05pm Brian in UK:

"Thinking is the most dangerous process known to man" Winston Churchill.

The Return of the Fifty Foot Killer Carrot Cake is due for a remake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm coelacanth∅:

Brian i don't know about that! (@2.00) ...i've also had some killer zucchini bread. mm-mmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm coelacanth∅:

(i'm hungry, clearly)
  2:10pm Rickwaukee:

Flight of Spring
Avatar 2:12pm Mayuko:

I was hoping hologram celebrities to be the future form of wax doll museums. If all they can do is just a dopey projection then that's not gonna happen any time soon!!
  2:13pm JakeGould:

I don’t understand why people come to NYC to go to a wax museum.
Avatar 2:15pm Mayuko:

Yeah, if their purpose is Madame Tussauds then I'd think they should visit England? Isn't that where it's originally from?
Avatar 2:16pm fred:

I read Prince was strongly opposed to holograms, so I can respect that Timberlake and his lawyers moved from that stunt. He should have switched to a hologram of Mark E Smith instead, now that would have been fun
  2:16pm Rickwaukee:

I think holograms are pretty advanced right now - at Super Bowl they were trying to distance themselves from all the lead-up negative hype bc Prince had shat on the idea of hologram duets
Avatar 2:18pm Mayuko:

Ha, I see. Prince was not part of We Are The World, so my wish could still be granted.
  2:19pm Rickwaukee:

What if were heard The Cramps: Human Fly in this set?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Yvang:

But a Mark E Smith hologram on stage with my granny on bongos : would it still be The Fall?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm listener james from westwood:

@Brian: Yes indeed, hoping to be on the phones during, and pre-Marathon envelope stuffing was slated for yesterday and next Tuesday!
Avatar 2:27pm fred:

@Yvang: Nope. Not until hologram technology improves to messing with (current) band members levels and settings
  2:29pm JakeGould:

The IT world is obsessed with VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) nowadays. Granted it’s more useful than 1990s stuff, but it still is overkill for most uses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Yvang:

@Fred: A glitching hologram would be technically messing.
  2:31pm Rickwaukee:

Dear Reynols, will you please play my wedding reception?
Avatar 2:31pm fred:

@JakeGould: So the IT world is into any qualified reality but the real one. Is that news?
Avatar 2:34pm fred:

It's always nice to hear Reynols
Avatar 2:36pm Mayuko:

One more vote for Reynols as a wedding band!
  2:45pm mzm:

are you doing three hrs show today? thanks. i tuned in late today.
