The world/celtic band Boiled in Lead plays this tune. They call it Serbian Kolo.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
fred:

@Sem: You mean the clashes the past two Saturdays and roadblocks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Sem:

Yes, wondering if it IS as bad as it is being portrayed in the MSM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Stanley:

(Exits toilet) Has the ticket inspector passed already?
Good, I'll go sit down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
fred:

@Sem: Probably not. The roadblocks are definitely not a new thing, and there have been violent clashes before (farmers, fishermen, or truckers). What's new is that they trash a big tourist spot instead of a smaller town, so it gets reported outside of France
Avatar 3:46pm
northguineahills:

Icelandic chorales in my subway? It's more likely then you think!

Careful Sem, MSM is a dirty word south of the border for some folks (w/ different intent then your context).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
David D:

All clear, Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Sem:

Thanks for that, fred.

NGH: noted, appreciated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
steveo:

lovely was the mansönger
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
fred:

@Sem: Come to think of it, the playbook is actually well established for such movements: pick a color and a garment for a name. It was red hats a few years ago, this time the fashion settled on yellow vests (I would have preferred yellow jackets as a translation, but that's just me). It could evolve into a Tea Party thing though, especially when they go hunting for immigrants.
Avatar 3:56pm
redkayak:

@fred - Thanks for this. I have been trying to figure out what's what. Are the political lines blurry or are my glasses old?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
Stanley:

fred - I thought gilets were more 'waistcoats' than jackets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
fred:

@redkayak: They are blurry, but this could be an opportunity for the nationalist self-proclaimed leader of the left to finally join the far-right. Ego is the main reason it hasn't happened yet, he won't play second fiddle, and neither will Le Pen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
fred:

@Stanley: Sure, but I was thinking of the wasps. What they refer to is a yellow reflective thing car drivers has supposed to wear when stopping on the side of the road
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
Stanley:

Not exactly waistcoats then, more hi-vis safety wear
Avatar 4:06pm
redkayak:

@fred - interesting. Seems like an uneasy coalition, but there are times when I could imagine such things in the US. Ay yi yi. Well, I hope that calm soon prevails.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
fred:

@Stanley: the goal is to mark them as pissed off car drivers who are tired of gas taxes (and ecological stuff that gets in their way)

Hello David and those looking for the quiet coach!

@Stanley at 4:03 if you are still awake. As you may well know hi-vis jackets must be on board cars in France. So that might come into the equation. Heck some just like fight in the name of freedom..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm

Good evening, Brian!

Parq:

Hi, David and troops. I've had mishaps lately in trying to listen to this show at work (we have a terribly outdated version of Java) but I'm'a giving it a go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
fred:

I think Peter Brötzmann had one too, and that it featured Joe McPhee (might have been an octet though)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
David D:

Hello Parq - hope it works out...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
Brian in UK:

How do you get them all on a small (for it is jazz) stage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
David D:

Well this "Tettet" only had six members, for what it's worth.
Avatar 5:24pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm

Apparently Brötzmann had both an octet and a tentet with Joe McPhee: joemcphee.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm
Brian in UK:

@WH no offense. Are they of Swiss origin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm
Stanley:

Hi Brian. Nowadays, if you want to go unnoticed, wear a hi-vis jacket
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Sem:

I thought when you wanted to go unnoticed, you hid in the lavatory until the ticket inspector went by.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm
fred:

Or maybe that's only when you want to go unticketed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm
Brian in UK:

@Stanley been seriously gigless here in the country. Yearning for some live music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
fred:

@Brian: Are there no shows around where your are, or just none that seem interesting?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm
Sem:

Excellent point, fred.

Not a Weezer fan, Brian? At the Met on the 8th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm
Sem:

Shrewsbury, NJ. Ohh...that's not a help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
Brian in UK:

fred. No real shows, the recent highlight was an organ recital ni the local church. Chuch organs are wonderous things. We are fifty kilometres fron Birmingham.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
David D:

Brian: How did the move go?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
Webhamster Henry:

@Brian in the UK : "Real " Hangs stopped being made abut 5 years ago, indeed they are from Switzerland. I think if you wanted one, you had to fly over there and they'd interview you to see if you were worthy.
Avatar 5:40pm
βrian:

Bussed, shopped, and fed the kitty, so I'm back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
David D:

Henry: What if you've just got the hang?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
fred:

@Brian: Maybe you'll have to throw a festival then (I actually know two separate people who now do that in the summer after moving to isolated but cheap countryside locations)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
Stanley:

I feel ya, Brian. However, it hasn't been that interesting up here, either, since Colin Stetson. The only thing in my sights is The Residents in Glasgow in February.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
Brian in UK:

David we are setttled but underestimated the work needed, story of my life.

Brian in UK:

@βrian is that Thomas Tallis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
fred:

@Stanley: That's surprising to me, Glasgow had a thriving noise/experimental scene not so long ago, is it gone? Then again maybe that's not your thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
Stanley:

Also, Quelbe is a new one on me
Avatar 5:48pm

Daid, loving Melos, is this a comp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm

fred - Edinburgh, where I live, can be a bit dull
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm

@Stanley: I have had a bunch of former colleagues moving to Edinburgh for postdocs, so I thought it was a college town. Then again, they didn't remain there for long
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm
Stanley:

fred - four universities but few decent venues
Avatar 5:59pm
βrian:

I've seen them at least 5 times, and they've always performed in small venues with good acoustics. Once they were divided between the front and back of a chapel for a responsorial piece. So beautiful.

Thanks David
