Favoriting Cratedigger's Lung with Rich In Washington: Playlist from May 3, 2019 Favoriting

Rich in Washington's avatar View Rich in Washington's profile Favoriting

A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Hi Don-O! Great Jean Shepherd show today!
Avatar 7:00pm
Don-O:

Thanks. I got more of his stuff at the fair. For the future.
Avatar 7:00pm
Don-O:

AH! A small hint of a Firesign theater record!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm
Rich in Washington:

I think it's where Firesign actually got it. This album came out in 1969.
Avatar 7:02pm
Mr Fab:

some great radio there Don-O, thx a mucho

Rich in Washington:

Hiya, Mr. Fab!
Avatar 7:03pm
Don-O:

Thanks, Fab.

Mr Fab:

We need more bagpipe rock! Yes, I realize I'm probly the first person to say that, but I stand by that statement!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
Rich in Washington:

That whole Cave Rock album is pretty nuts, but that's the only track with bagpipes on it.
Avatar 7:10pm
Don-O:

I hear of this 'bagpipe jazz' I once heard on Molotov Cocktail Hour!
Avatar 7:11pm
Don-O:

louder & faster! I sensing a sexy theme here!
Avatar 7:11pm
Mr Fab:

yeah...who was that guy..? dont tell me..Rufus Harley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
Rich in Washington:

I also recently saw a female Jazz musician who pulled out a set of bagpipes and just wailed. It was pretty amazing. I will have to track that video down again.
Avatar 7:19pm
Mr Fab:

That was a great set, all flowed like one big mix
Avatar 7:19pm
Don-O:

Wow! Can you health insurance handle what that guy can give you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Fab! Almost all on turntables, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
ironybread:

That opening fanfare was actually originally lifted from Major Records #5010. It's not on Discogs - I should put it up! Side one is sound effects (gun bursts & whistling shells), side two is 9 fanfares. Firesign used almost ALL of those fanfares - any old scratchy record fanfare you hear on an old Firesign record probably came from it.
Avatar 7:22pm
Mr Fab:

that Cromagnon album came out in '69!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Rich in Washington:

Thanks, ironybread! I'd always wondered about that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Rich in Washington:

Glad you made it here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Rich in Washington:

Do you have a page dedicated to all those cues? I can't remember...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Rich in Washington:

Adding records is rather arduous and your reward is A: finally being able to add the record to your virtual collection and B: lots of irritating notes from other submitters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
ironybread:

No web page, but I do have a Word document with a list of about 1000 record samples in "Dear Friends". Why did I compile this document? Why?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Rich in Washington:

We're all the richer for it. Thank you for your service.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
Rich in Washington:

I can't believe how thrashed that copy of Stop Jap! is. Embarrassing. I've owned it since I was a teenager.
  7:31pm
Martinibomb:

whoa this heavy
  7:31pm
Martinibomb:

I wanna see a photo of yer copy post it to the FB feed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm

Hiya, Martinibomb!

Martinibomb:

Dude I think I'm going to get a membership at movie madness again lol that's my friday night plan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
Rich in Washington:

Visually, my oldest records look fine, but many bear witness to being played on a really cheap turntable - a Realistic Clarinet all-in-one, until I finally bought a real turntable.
  7:35pm
Martinibomb:

it was probably fine as long as you replaced the needle regularly etc.. and wasn't too heavy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
Rich in Washington:

Pfft! No way! I didn't know anything about proper turntables or the care of needles, etc. well into adulthood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
ironybread:

A funny feeling down deep inside. Funny ha-ha. An actual laughing object embedded in my intestines. That's square to ME.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
Rich in Washington:

I just found this record a couple of weeks ago.
  7:38pm
Martinibomb:

Geez did Mike Pence write this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm

HA!
Avatar 7:41pm

As cheap as Radio Shack was with some of their electronics, I do miss them.
Avatar 7:41pm
Don-O:

Hell Car or The Car (movie)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Rich in Washington:

I still wonder whatever became of my old record player. I went through a big chunk of the late 80s and early 90s without any means of playing records.
Avatar 7:42pm
Don-O:

....and I thought we were a slave to Starbucks!
  7:44pm
Martinibomb:

I totally miss radio shack I spent huge amounts of time there as a kid buying parts for electronics projects. plus the one I went to also doubled as a VHS rental store .. bonus!
Avatar 7:44pm
Don-O:

....I now must be listening to April Winchell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm

I miss having an electric parts store. Also where will all of our parents go to to get a 20' headphone extension cable?
  7:47pm
Martinibomb:

THere was that Novac electronics in beaverton? I might have the name wrong. used to buy lots of parts there
  7:48pm

The last of our several turntables committed suicide last week.
They were really good ones, near antiques scrounged from thrift shops. Don't miss 'em, we're addicted to woofmoo.

The production on this record is kind of nuts. I love the panning on the instruments. Maybe the engineer was deaf in one ear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm

Thanks, Don-O! See you next week!
