Long before this show. Probably a result of a mix you did for Larry back then.
Avatar 10:12pm
Kris Holmes:

Wow Matt, that's funny, I haven't touched Mixcloud since I started this show I don't think.

Matt from New Orleans:

Hi Chresti and NGH. Chresti you should be honored your name is now saved in my predictive text on my phone so I must have typed your name enough.

Little Danny:

Hey Kris, hey y'all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I was saying to Danny that I think I recognized you a few times at the stomp over the years but my not wanting to seem like a weirdo fanboy kept me from approaching you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Hi Danny. I was typing that when you showed up.

You probably did see me at the stomp, you should have come said hi!

Kris, I was so wiped out this afternoon, I fell asleep with a cup of coffee in my hand. But I woke right up when I heard Buddy Holly!
  10:22pm
Carmichael:

Just re-watched The Commitments last night. Thought of this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
chresti:

I am honored that your text predictor remembers me, Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Franco Twinkie:

I love the tinker-toy sound of the band behind Dean Jones.
  10:29pm
Carmichael:

Isn’t that strange? My phone predicts chresti, Gaylord, Therese, coelacanth and several more. Hoping that’s not bad, after listening to Mark Hurst.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Franco Twinkie:

I worry about driving over speed bumps after listening to Mark Hurst.

good evening, mr holmes. hi everybody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Little Danny:

Was this "You Are My Sunshine" based on any particular version in the charts at the time?
Avatar 10:36pm
Kris Holmes:

Yes. The Ray Charles?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Little Danny:

Ah, of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Franco Twinkie:

It took me years not to ask myself that question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Little Danny:

definitely some fun little gems in the Hit Records catalog
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:44pm

bobby brooks 'wise like solomon' is a good Hit Records 45. i tend to give a listen to any i come across.

Sitting on the sofa playing my bongos waiting for you to come home.

Interesting, Freddy King doing NOLA style session trying to catch some Otis Redding cash. Don't remember hearing that one before.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
JtotheK:

there's a version of tighten up on Hit Records, but the copy on discogs is priced at ... over 400 dollars, so...
Avatar 10:54pm
Kris Holmes:

that Tighten Up is great but actually legit rare
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Little Danny:

Occasionally the Hit Records versions would really alter the arrangements of the original, but I think it was generally accidental. Trying to recall some of my faves right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Little Danny:

The Chords' "Have You Seen Mother Baby Standing In The Shadows" on Hit is a shredder
  11:04pm
Carmichael:

I told the story, yeah? Jimmy Smith lived right down the lane out here. We would walk up into his barn full of organs, and he played them “to make sure they still worked”. A great old soul.
  11:06pm
Dean:

My Jimmy Smith story: I caught a couple shows at Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood. Two drink minimum. I was seated front row center. When my second martini arrived, Jimmy tells me from the stage, "Cut back on the martinis!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
Little Danny:

Well, Dean, he was right wasn't he?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Little Danny:

GREAT Muddy side
  11:10pm
Dean:

Not that night. Other nights? Perhaps...
  11:12pm
Carmichael:

That guy was so personable. He asked some kid once, “Who you been listening to?” He told him he just discovered Booker T, and he immediately played a version of Time is Tight. I laughed and applauded.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
JtotheK:

Vodka or Gin martini, Dean?
  11:14pm
Dean:

Gin, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
chresti:

Whoa! Martinis at the Catalina, high roller!
Avatar 11:19pm
still b/p:

I'm suddenly a fan of gin and tonic. Conversion, after occasional samplings over the years, occurred on a mellow Maine island holiday a few weeks ago when I was given one right after a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the porch. It was reported here in the comments as it happened! Say amen!
  11:20pm
Dean:

The old Catalina, before the move to Hollywood Blvd., where I've never been.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
nostrangerer:

That was sneaky, I'm thinking wow who is this, must be who the 'birds copped their version from . . . LOL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
Little Danny:

I knew the Bobby Bland (original?) version of "I'll Take Care of You," but I'd never heard Wright's. Great!
Avatar 11:27pm
Kris Holmes:

it's a great song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
