Good evening Mr Holmes, hi everyone. Tuned in this evening from Guadalajara, Mexico.

Kris Holmes:

whoa, vacation time huh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Little Danny:

That Humming Bird track was SO late '60s Midwest
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
JtotheK:

Nope, work trip. Long days! Looking forward to relaxing during the program.

Heya Kris.

Haha. But that side is good too!

Solomon Burke! Kris bringing the A game!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Franco Twinkie:

Humming Bird reminded me of this garage band called Siddhartha from my neighborhood when I was a teenager. A bunch of high school drop outs who would jam all day and occasionally play in the park.

WR:

JtotheK, if you indulge, hope you have some nice tequila with which to wind down the day.
  10:31pm
Carmichael:

Or Irish whiskey.
Avatar 10:31pm

Solomon Burke sounded like R.B. Greaves with a little extra grit.
Avatar 10:32pm
Kris Holmes:

oh man, i can't stand RB Greaves
Avatar 10:34pm
still b/p:

How come? I know nothing other than the couple pop charting tracks.
  10:35pm
Carmichael:

Ha ha, do tell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Franco Twinkie:

There is this clip from some variety show of RB Greaves singing Take A Letter Maria. He is sitting on a desk in an office set that is really cheap and thrown together looking. it's sort of great in a cornball way.
  10:40pm
Carmichael:

He also did Always Something There to Remind Me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Little Danny:

Crisp drums! This is very nice indeed
Avatar 10:44pm
still b/p:

I just saw that! The tape recorder he's dictating into then self-destructs a la Mission Impossible.
"Take A Letter, Maria" only and always struck me as an E-Z conceived, consciously depthless, catchy pop thing, dwelling somewhere between Tony Orlando and Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose. Didn't know it might stir hard judgments.
Avatar 10:45pm
Kris Holmes:

i sure hope i fixed the skips in this Miles 45..........

sounds so good on 45 though otherwise argh
Avatar 10:49pm
Kris Holmes:

i only recently delved into Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose because I'd never really paid any attention before last year, I really like the 45s I have now.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
JtotheK:

I like the dance scene in blackkklansman that features a cornelius bros sister rose track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Franco Twinkie:

And this happened at the bus stop?
Avatar 10:53pm
still b/p:

CB&SR bring portable radios to mind. And even as a kid I thought the word repetition in the chorus lyrics of the two big hits was interesting as their "thing."
Avatar 10:53pm
Kris Holmes:

best bus stop story ever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
Franco Twinkie:

At the very end of the movie Bus Stop, Marilyn Monroe is wiggling down the street and some old bag asks the bus driver - "Is That A Movie Star?" The seen it all bus driver says - "Lady, that's nobody." Ha! was he wrong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Little Danny:

What do you use to fix skips, Kris?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Franco Twinkie:

..And featuring The Devils Angel Singers!
Avatar 11:07pm
Kris Holmes:

a mixture of different weights & running the stylus back & forward, maybe smooth with my fingernail, it's hit or miss
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Franco Twinkie:

Some of the greatest lame-ass playing ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Little Danny:

Yeah I do the stylus thing too. Definitely mangled some grooves that way but it's been the most effective method ultimately
Avatar 11:12pm
still b/p:

Hah, greatest lame-ass playing. Ya got your glam rock and ya got yer GLAP rock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Franco Twinkie:

Isn't there some kind of an ointment you can use on these problematic records?
Avatar 11:23pm
Kris Holmes:

i don't know of one unfortunately
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Franco Twinkie:

Lucky man. I scratch my back with a big cooking spoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Franco Twinkie:

Can we get any more juice out of those oranges if we sit on them?
Avatar 11:50pm
Kris Holmes:

maybe if we twist them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm

Great show, Kris. Thanks you very much.
