I just finished reading _Split Tooth_ by Tanya Tagaq, whom I know you have played a good bit, Dan. It was a good read! Took longer than it should have as my reading schedule got disrupted by the loss of my commute. You know.

A zombie, moi? Now how could your delicious brain come up with such a silly idea?

Nice article on community radio at the NY Times! They chat with WWOZ and a couple other teeny stations, in addition to WFMU

Universal Sounds (a sublabel of Soul Jazz), put out an album of Georgian liturgical an a capella choir about 10 years ago, FYI.

WWOZ in NOLA is wonderful, very kind, dedicated, knowledgeable programmers at the station down there. Glad to hear they got some exposure! I like listening to the 'traditional' jazz on weekday mornings. As a side note, when the dust settles and you're visiting New Orleans in the future, wwoz.org posts info about Sunday second lines so you can join the fun!

Oh and thank you for playing Yma Sumac! I hang my head in sadness remembering the lesson she taught me about the fragility of 78s.

Wasn't Eastman was uncredited as a vocalist on the album?
Avatar 7:38pm
terribilia:

this is insanely beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
Dan Bodah:

@Devin, Eastman is credited only as an organist on this track. I wonder if that's correct?
Avatar 7:38pm
northguineahills:

Julius Eastman, a much underrecorded/performed composer. He came to my attention via DJ Spooky 1999 (another artist whose music I like, but detest as a human [see Miles Davis]).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm
Dan Bodah:

Eastman definitely sang on Dolmen Music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm

oh wow! didn't know eastman was involved in this recording

(the detest statement was direct at Dj Spooky, he was a a dick to my friends when they toured together in Europe)

DB #1. Bonjour Love the Bulgarian vocals. I commend their perseverance & preservation of their music , especially under hundreds of years of Ottoman domination.
Avatar 7:41pm

oh, and.... Meredith Monk!
Avatar 7:42pm

The last 250 years of Ottoman suzerainty, it was pretty much a ping pong match b/tn the local aristocrats and the Janniseries ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm

Maybe that's what I'm thinking of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
