Hi Jan and those over and under 64. Have the stream playing but work meetings start the same time as this program and are likely to run much longer. So today I am a lurking listener.

That's nice! I have so many recordings of her, she'll be on this show for at least another year.

Wonderful! I also enjoyed Ruth Etting. I'm not familiar with her.

Well, I'm learning as we go along too. It's just this enormous mp3 archive I inhereted.

That happened to me with a friend who worked at a college radio station. 15 years later there's still material I haven't gotten to yet!

Hi Jan. Great show and ear enchanting sounds so far. I always wonder what will eventually happen to all the niche private audio/video archives. Will they gradually disappear and be lost to time. A truly international worldwide archive is needed to preserve it all for the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Dave!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, in The Netherlands you can bring your audio archives to 'Het Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid" in Hilversum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am
Jan Turkenburg:

There they collect and exhibit Dutch audio/visual history
  11:14am
Dave in St Albans UK:

Jan. That is good to hear. We have a national sound archive but I don't know if they will save everything donated to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
fred:

@Dave in St Albans: Alternatively, you can apply to get a show on WFMU and anything you play will be preserved. As long as the station survives, that is, but who cares what happens if WFMU isn't around?

Checking in briefly while my work computer reboots. Archive.org has a couple of projects archiving old and out of print music. For example archive.org...

@fred Hi!Assuming that World hasn't actually ended I for one would seriously miss WFMU and its four streams of musical bliss:-)

Hi Mr. Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am
StringOFperils:

@Dave in St Albans UK..actually WFMU has five (5) streams of musical bliss. There is also an UBU stream that doesn't appear on the web page at present. It's all avant-garde. The UBU player isn't working consistently at this time, according to Ken (I asked him), and the funds needed to fix that are, I guess, second to other considerations right now. You can access it, however, through the little transmitter-tower icon at the bottom of the main media player. FYI
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am
Jan Turkenburg:

Ow.. thank you SOP, I wasn't aware the UBU stream was still available
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Jan, have you heard of DJ McSchmormac in SF (on KPOO, formerly on Pirate Cat) who does a show called Gramaphoney Baloney and only plays recordings from 1950 or earlier?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am
StringOFperils:

Seems to work whenever I check it out. It's up on the lift in the garage tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

StringOFperils: thanks for the tip! Before it was made invisible, i tried to tune into UBU for months without much luck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
Jan Turkenburg:

Thank you, Granny. I didn't know that. Will check it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am
StringOFperils:

I just found it while snooping about Granny. This has been my month of WFMU immersion. I actually emailed Ken about it, to ask, which was probably presumptious...probably made him grumpy. He graciously responded to me though, and told me what I told you above. I assume the intention is to get it up once it's robust again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Jan: KPOO streams, too, and DJ McS archives his programs on Mixcloud. He's a real treat!

Well, the Ubuweb stream doesn't have live shows. I dont think its updated. Curater Kenny G doesnt take an active role in it.
