Hi Bob! Glad to have you here right from the start!

Yes, it is nice! Back to working from home. I'm only having to go in for one day every two weeks.

Linda Lee:

hello Jan! how are you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Linda! I'm doing pretty well considering the whole "situation" in the world. How about you?
Avatar 10:06am
Linda Lee:

fine here, Jan. thanks.
how are things playing out where you are? many restrictions?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am

Good afternoon Jan and listeners

Hi Fred!

Linda Lee:

that Ada Jones record is amazing. 'my little pickaninny' .. 'little alabama coon'.. 'you little kinky head'? wow. not sure even the mothership would play that one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am
Jan Turkenburg:

I wasn't even aware, Linda I never check the lyrics for this show.
Avatar 10:11am
Linda Lee:

i thought that might be the case. haha! well, if there's a banned record list, that one's on it :-) :-)
Avatar 10:13am
Linda Lee:

hi fred! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
fred:

@Linda Lee: Maybe not everywhere, didn't an Alaska school board ban Maya Angelou last week?
More importantly, did you move or are your relocation plans scrapped for now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am
Listener Bob in PGH:

Hi Linda. Yes, I was wincing as I heard those lyrics as well. It is hard to listen to these old recordings sometimes, but I think it's important to know that was openly acceptable in the past. We can't forget history.
Avatar 10:18am
Linda Lee:

did they?
i was thinking more of banned records on fmu. no telling though!
thanks for asking. the sale of this cabin is still in process .. held up a bit by the lockdowns. my plans for what to do next have definitely been impacted. thought i'd travel .. .. ..
Avatar 10:20am
Linda Lee:

oh yes. absolutely right, Bob. i'm not outraged. just surprised!
Avatar 10:20am
Linda Lee:

sort of like finding a worm in one's apple. haha!
Avatar 10:23am

(which hardly ever happens with commercially grown apples anymore. so much spraying done.)

(more, to fred) it's actually hard to know what to do next. we're not going back to 'the way it was'.
Avatar 10:31am
Linda Lee:

thank you for the update, Jan. i hadn't heard about your situation. hope you're managing well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am
Jan Turkenburg:

slowly adapting here, Linda
Avatar 10:38am
Linda Lee:

good. that's all we can do, really.
i'm barey adapting here. mainly because i live in the country & nothing's changed much around me.
loved the charles trenet record!
Avatar 10:42am
Linda Lee:

Jan, do you know the recordings by the Nat Cole Trio? really beautiful jazz records. different than his solo work later on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am
fred:

@Linda Lee: No going back indeed: got an email today from my employer saying I wouldn't be allowed back in the office until September, maybe even next year. I sure can work from home, but guess who's paying the electricity bill?
Avatar 10:44am
Linda Lee:

shit, i'm sorry, fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am
fred:

Don't be. I have it great, I still get paid, when many people lost their jobs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am
Jan Turkenburg:

@Linda, yes there are some in this archive too, I believe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am
Listener Bob in PGH:

I feel the same way Fred, I'm fortunate to still have a job. Wow, that's a long time to be banished from the office. If you don't mind me asking, what type of work do you do? Is it education related?
Avatar 10:47am
Linda Lee:

@fred ~ yes. millions of us. the second 'great depression' may be underway.
amazing, isn't it. in a matter of days..
showing us how fragile the functioning system actually was. running on fumes, likely.
Avatar 10:49am
Linda Lee:

@Jan ~ nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am
fred:

@Linda Lee: What if the financial markets don't collapse and the rich can just watch and take even more of a share? Amazon shareholders are sure doing OK with Amazon getting a monopoly on so much. Same will probably go for tech when their overpriced gizmos are made mandatory to even go out for a walk. They might find that the system runs even better now than ever
Avatar 10:56am
Linda Lee:

oh, sure ~ if we can keep pulling dollars out of the air for subsidies. we can't have bare subsistence & also buy gadgets.
then there's the whole geopolitical angle.. real trouble for the dollar.
Avatar 10:58am
Linda Lee:

i really don't think this collapse was properly planned for. i think it might get away from them fairly quickly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am

Jan: David Dichelle played "Nummer 86 Is een Kerrygerecht" two days ago and was stumped as to the meaning and pronunciation. Maybe you should start a group Dutch class
