update after a listener's question: Davids sings he is a practicing spiritist. Each verse is about the ghost of a famous/historical person visiting him, among which writers, composers, dutch heroes. The twist is that after the singer for instance reads his latest poem to Joost van den Vondel, he never hears from him again. That happens in a different way whith each ghost. The orchestra each time quotes melodies somehow connected to that person. |
