Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! I'm doing well after a little Carpal Tunnel surgery last Monday. Peter is here to help me (and kitties too).
Avatar 11:56am βrian:

Ears akimbo here. Hope you're healing well.
  12:00pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Mr Methany, marvellous
Avatar 12:04pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene, when do the stitches come out? This assumes that you can type!!
  12:05pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

And I am guessing, some fine fretless bass playing from the late, great Jack Pastoriuous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm sphere:

hullo everybody. yeah sean, that sounded like Jaco alright--the speed and accuracy were amazing.
  12:09pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

@ Sphere, have you seen the documentary ‘Jaco’? ‘Tis a thing of beauty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Irene Trudel:

Indeed it's Jaco, Sean!

Hi also to james, Brian, βrian and sphere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

And greetings to you, Irene and WFMU crew, pals, wise acres, lurkers! So glad to be here with you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm doctorjazz:

Awww, missed TMBG (big fan, never heard that track).
Hi Irene and weekday warriors!
  12:12pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

I have my receptacle ready to pour my grey matter in whilst my mind explodes! So sorry, too much information but what can I say, this show ticks all the boxes plus some
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

doctorjazz: yeah, i gotta go back into the archives and catch that, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Irene Trudel:

Sean, we've not seen the Jaco doc. Do you know where it's available?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Granny & doctorjazz! Yeah, the archive will have it.
  12:13pm Dean:

I like how you greeted sphere just as the Monk track started playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Irene Trudel:

Nice coincidence, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm sphere:

Dean, you are spot on. :)
  12:19pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Available on Amazon Prime, ITunes and dvd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm listener james from westwood:

That kinda looked like a carpal tunnel splint, but I didn't want to guess out of turn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

hi, Peter!
  12:20pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hey Mr K, top Mets fan
  12:26pm Dean:

Another coincidence: I just read the Pareles obit.
Avatar 12:26pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Such sad news, I didn't know, a truly gifted artist.
Avatar 12:27pm Sean in Bristol UK:

And thank you for this track, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

ah, beautiful—now these notes remind me of the end of Hinky Dinky Time, which is also poignant
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Irene Trudel:

Albatross is a favorite tune I discovered at my high school radio station. It was sent as a DJ single-- mono on one side, stereo on the other.
Avatar 12:34pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Stunning piece of music, this artist is definitely on my radar, blown away!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Irene and those in the joint. I hope your healing is going well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Irene Trudel:

Yasmin Williams has a few videos online worth checking out. An amazing guitarist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Ken! I'm a little stiff in the hand but all is going well. (Pain meds help, although I don't seem to need 'em much today-- a good sign!)
Avatar 12:43pm Brian in UK:

Sean, are you getting drenched today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Doug Schulkind:

Uncle Michael has been using Albatross as his out-theme since forever. Pretty freaking excellent closer. So drenched in melancholy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

lovely set, and with my kitty, a mug of chai and strawberry rhubarb pie, i feel invincible
Avatar 12:47pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Brian, yes, it was sheeting it down on occasion, a cycle was planned but was soon postponed!
Avatar 12:49pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Dessert bowl ready, crikey, one heck of a set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Irene Trudel:

Doug, I used Albatross as talkover many moons ago but it was pre-CD anf too difficult to keep re-cuing.
Avatar 12:56pm Brian in UK:

Emma Swift reminds me of Jenny Lewis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Doug Schulkind:

It wasn't all that long ago that I would still reach over to the turntable and re-cue the bed music in the middle of a mic break!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning (-ish), Irene & Peter! Hope you're feeling better, Ms. T! Show is great, as ever. Loving that Dylan cover, too. Think Mary Wing played it, as well. <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Granny - Home made pie or store-bought? My dear mother has some good recipes and we really enjoyed them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Ken From Hyde Park: today's my sweetie's birthday and he wanted to try this new bakery in SF, so we got one. The last pie i made was a family recipe. That's so special!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Very nice. Rhubarb pie is great wherever the source!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm doctorjazz:

Ahhh, Kweskin-i mentioned this before (and I'm sure you don't remember), but I met you two at The City Winery Kweskin show (with my friend Jim you knew from ASCAP). It was a great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Michael 98145:

yay, pie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Michael 98145:

Kweskin: "In the 1980s, he stopped recording and performing regularly in order to devote himself to building houses."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Michael 98145:

healing thoughts to you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm doctorjazz:

They had a live outdoor Richard Thompson concert in New Jersey, originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was rained out. Rescheduled for Saturday night (which I couldn't make, daughter's birthday, got a great review). The City Winery has also set up some socially distanced, outdoor concerts as well, I've read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Michael 98145: may a delicious pie experience be in your near future!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Michael 98145: and waving hi to the zip code near many places i have lived
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Michael 98145:

howdy, @GST!
  1:47pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Decided to go cycling, what music whilst the farming countryside goes passing by. Had to stop to submit this, safe road use and all that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Sean in Bristol, UK: sounds lovely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Michael 98145:

Mostly been enjoying these shows via archives ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Irene Trudel:

doctorjazz, I would’ve gone to see Richard but wasn't up to driving. We hope to check out some of those City Winery offerings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm sphere:

hip beans! who knew?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Irene Trudel:

doctorjazz, I do remember that Kweskin show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Irene Trudel:

Running behind on comments today. Michael & Summer & Michael & Sylvia, thanks for the healing vibes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm sphere:

Two of my favorite vocalese songs came from the Manhattan Transfer album Vocalese: Another Night In Tunisia (with Jon Hendricks and Bobby McFerrin) and Killer Joe.
  2:05pm Cronbat:

For info on Kweskin, Van Morrison, and Boston Mass. in 1968, I recommend Ryan H. Walsh's book, Astral Weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Michael 98145:

i enjoyed watching the Other Music documentary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

so funny, i was thinking, this sounds like Nilsson—but it's his kindred spirit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Cronbat! I've also been reading a nice history of Woodstock and all the musicians who settled there called Small Town Talk by Barney Hoskins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm melinda:

Hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Mark Hurst:

Glad your hand is feeling better, Irene. And hi to Peter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Melinda! Granny, I have something by Harry Nilsson planned for the next set
  2:23pm Alan R:

herbie! nice to hear him. I've been slowly making my way thru Robin Kelley's bio of Monk. Nichols was there. so was another Keepnews. lol. I learned much about Nichols from knowing Roswell Rudd. The bloodstream of American classical music, as Ros would say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm doctorjazz:

The Micros! All my faves! I was so sad when they split, have caught most of the reunions whenever Philip Johnston comes to the US.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Mark! Doing well but typing is a little problematic. Alan R, don't get us started on that Monk bio. lotta issues wi th it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm doctorjazz:

Nice solo from Dave Hofstra (Didn't step out much).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Irene Trudel:

We love The Micros! We see them every chance we can. And, of course, our own Dave Sewelson is the ensemble's bari-saxophonist.
  2:28pm Alan R:

uh oh!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Irene Trudel:

Alan R, we haven't played Roswell Rudd in too long. Maybe next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm doctorjazz:

Go Dave Sewelson! (The "outside" Micro!)!
Avatar 2:43pm northguineahills:

One of my favorite Nilsson albums (the doc is awesome).
Avatar 2:44pm northguineahills:

Space Force is fun in a dorky kind of way. Not overly intellectual (I'm a dork, FYI)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm deborah:

Listening, finally. Will start all over at 3.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm deborah:

Glad you are feeling better. How did you produce this show?
Avatar 2:51pm northguineahills:

Didn't know the Tiger Lillies were still around...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Irene Trudel:

Agreed, ngh! We look forward to Space Force season 2. Hey deborah! Yes, the archive awaits.I had a little help for my husband Peter, but I'm actually in Pretty good shape. And thanks to Charlie Lewis (who did a show last Saturday) I saw that there were two new Tiger Lillies albums available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for all the comments and well-wishes today. Catch you next Monday at noon!
Avatar 2:57pm northguineahills:

Happy thanks, Irene!
Avatar 2:58pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Comin' up next on this Drummer stream that Irene has so soothely smoothed...

  2:58pm Sean in Bristol, UK:
