if i remember correctly -- Pakistan Independence Day is August 14th, and India's is August 15th?
one year i was able to check out the Parade and Festival in Manhattan, by Madison Square Park -- it was soooo crowded and crazy but in such a happy, positive way! Madhuri Dixit was one of the performers, when she hit the stage everyone went nuts!
