September 5, 2020:
Rob & Katie's Labor of Love
The nineteenth edition of an annual late summer tradition: Rob Weisberg and longtime sidekick Katie Gentile play radio ping-pong, trading tracks back and forth. Rob bounces popular and unpopular music from around the world off Katie's vintage and contemporary indie rock. It's genre-clashing at its FMU-iest.
Rob, as you may know, is an unpaid radio DJ and record geek. Katie, on the other hand, is an academic, a Gradiva Award winning author,
open-water swimmer and violinist in the band The Special Pillow. The Special Pillow have a brand new album out, World's Finest!
WFMU's Transpacific Sound Paradise joins in celebrating Global Music Month this September! Global Music Month is a collaborative online mega-festival featuring content from nineteen festivals and event producers in the US and Canada, most of whom normally present in-person festivals and concerts in the summer and autumn months. Because that's not possible this year they've teamed up to cross-promote online events all this month under the Global Music Month banner.
The full daily schedule for Global Music Month is here.
Here's a highlight from this past week's Global Music Month offerings: New York's own Flushing Town Hall presents one of their fun Global Mash-Up concerts from 2018 - Egypt meets Haiti with Zikrayat & Agoci Band:
You can find out more and watch lots and lots of great live-streamed and archival performances from the nineteen and presenters listed below, all September, at:
