September 12, 2020:
On We Go
Listen to this show:
Pop-up player!
As you've probably heard, Frederick Nathaniel "Toots" Hibbert, O.J., a great and influential artist who, among many other things, helped inspire some of us of a certain age to explore music beyond our own borders, has left us.
But of course the music lives on...
Speaking of which: WFMU's Transpacific Sound Paradise joins in celebrating Global Music Month this September! Global Music Month is a collaborative online mega-festival featuring content from nineteen festivals and event producers in the US and Canada, most of whom normally present in-person festivals and concerts in the summer and autumn months. Because that's not possible this year they've teamed up to cross-promote online events all this month under the Global Music Month banner.
The full daily schedule for Global Music Month is here.
Here's a highlight from this past week's Global Music Month offerings:
SLAVIC MUSIC MEET: From the URGNT vaults:
The arts organization URGNT presents beautifully shot performances by (in this order) Fosho, Socalled, Alyona Alyona, Moskitto Bar, and Marina Krut - artists who might normally have performed at festivals like Sunfest in London, Ontario (which I had a great time attending last summer) or the Ashkenaz Festival or Small World Music Festival in Toronto:
SLAVIC MUSIC MEET: From the URGNT vaults from URGNT TRNTO LIVE on Vimeo.
You can find out more and watch lots and lots of great live-streamed and archival performances from the nineteen Global Music Month festivals and presenters listed below, all September, at:Artist | Track | Album | Label | Comments | New | Approx. start time |
