If you want to see my work, here's how I figured it out: I remembered hearing this music in a movie, but also on Charlie Lewis's marathon premium from a few years ago of film music, called "Another Reel World." So, I went and found the CD and perused the titles, then listened to which ones I thought it was. I got it on the first try.

I learned all of my detective moves from my former career as a cheesemonger. Every day, someone would come in with, "I had this cheese, and I can't remember what it's called, but I want more..."
Oh, and I also learned detective moves from Lt. Columbo, but that sorta goes without saying.

And I also want to revisit Stranger Than Paradise. Have you seen the Criterion edition? It has some awesome extras, including a short film, "Permanent Vacation," that introduced me to the fabulous song "Up There in Orbit" by Earl Bostic.

re: Permanent Vacation -- believe it or not, first time i saw that was on PBS/channel 13 in NYC!
re: Stranger Than Paradise -- DEFINITELY a favorite (and *not* just b/c i am Hungarian) -- recently watched with friends who had never seen it (maybe because they are both 10+ years younger than me? and/or were not living in this area in the 80s?) -- what i had NOT ever noticed before was that some of Stranger Than Paradise was filmed here in Hoboken

Stranger Than Paradise was also filmed partly in Melbourne Beach, Florida, where I spent many happy summers with my Mema when I was a kiddo. Once I learned that (as an adult), things made a little more sense in large ways and small.
