That version of Love Me came out two years before Elvis recorded it. And it wasn't the only one! I did not know that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am
Jan Turkenburg:

Me neither SOp. I was surprised to find it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am
Jan Turkenburg:

But this archive holds a lot of surprises for me ... ;-)
  Swag For Life Member 10:40am
WR:

Are the 50s pop selections (like this Henri Salvador and the DeMarco Sisters ) from the same archivist that you got most of the 78 & cylinder rips.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am
Mx. Granny (e/em):

greetings, Jan and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, but he didn't make all the recordings/transfers himself. However he tried to master/smooth them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Granny!
  Swag For Life Member 10:43am
WR:

If yes, then it is his taste and perception that shapes the 50s selections.

Yes. I agree

Mx. Granny (e/em):

hey there, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am
Rich in Washington:

I love old organ records. My mom inherited a large collection of 78s which were largely organ music. My brother and I played them incessently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am
Rich in Washington:

Hi Mx. Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am
Jan Turkenburg:

Are those still in the family Richard?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
spodiodi:

aloha, Jan! good morning everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
Rich in Washington:

No. I think they were thrown out. I'm also somewhat ashamed to say that my brother and I didn't take great care of them. We'd do things like spin them very fast on the turntable, play them slowly, handspin them backwards, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
chresti:

Morning spodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am
spodiodi:

hihi, chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am
Rich in Washington:

We also learned that by laying a 7" record on top of a 10" record, the needle would of course become stuck in a loop when it came to the edge of the 7" record. We thought that was funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Jan Turkenburg:

PYes, I'm almost certain, but I haven't got the HD connected at the moment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
Rich in Washington:

@spodiodi: we were once listening to records in such a manner on our back porch on my brother's portable turntable and - being kids - got distracted and eventually went to town with our mother. When we came home hours later, the turntable was still spinning and the 78 had a very noticeable wear ring where the 7 inch record was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am

Wenzo Toad:

Hey Jan! Just wanted to let youn know how far aivw gotten in you archives so far! I don’t think i skipped any... maybe a couple, probably a few “incompletes” but for the most part Ive listened to it all! or... had it on while I was walking in the woods/reading anyway. I thought about writing some comments but as I listened on my points were all made for me by you as the episodes progressed making my commentary IRRELEVANT... sigh. I had hoped that my dog would finally show an interest in music during the last episode but she was nonplussed(or perhaps felt patronized, I can’t be sure.) At any rate... I hope you are having a very fine weekend!
