features two sets of music recorded for WFMU by up-and-coming Brooklyn guitarist Tyondai (tie-ON-dye) Braxton. Braxton creates his own unique amalgam of experimental and pop music by layering loops of guitar,
singing, and human beatbox rhythms into complex songs reminiscent of early Brian Eno, KK Null, the Spaceheads, Glenn Branca's guitar symphonies, and even at times of Radiohead. His first album is just out on JMZ records (jmzrecords.com) and he's already got 5 more in the works! Check him out online at tyondai.com

Whitman Duo) to Advanced D&D, late night Thursday at about 2:30 AM. Taped live here in the

3 bands - The Rezillos, The Accelerators and Project 208 Thursday, June 27th, 2002, 11pm - 2am
on
Pat Duncan's show
Formed in 1976 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the Rezillos were initially a fluid and highly informal collective whose repertoire contained material from the
likes of the Dave Clark Five and the Sweet. Frequently aligned with the
punk movement the Rezillos' (now known as the Revillos) irreverent
glam-rock image and affection for campy girl-group iconography sets them
distinctly apart. It has been said of the Rezillos that
in an age of bands trying to change the world, they are totally
undiluted fun. Catch upcoming shows at Warsaw in Brooklyn June 28th, Maxwells in Hoboken on June 29th, and the Court Tavern in New Brunswick June 30th.
Eleni Mandell Wednesday, June 26th, 2002, 1pm - 2pm
on
Irwin's show
Singer Eleni Mandell will perform in a quartet setting. The LA born-and-raised Mandell has released three albums of sultry, after-hours noir-pop that's flavored with lascivious intrigue, tragic losers, devious dames, and ice-hearted double-dealers. Her new album, Snakebite, and her previous, Thrill, were produced by Brian Kehew. She performs that evening at Fez, in New York.
Deerhoof Tuesday, June 25th, 2002, 3pm - 6pm
on
Brian Turner's show
From the Bay Area, Deerhoof have been unpeggable since their inception; just when you are lured in by their indelible hooks and singer Satomi's bubblegum-perfect voice, they evolve into splinters of organized chaos, sharp and chunky guitars and confusion along the order of the more way-out moments of Caroliner or the Thinking Fellers Union. Their first visit to the WFMU studios today.
Autobody Monday, June 24th, 2002, 8pm - 11pm
on
Scott Williams's show
Shall we call Autobody a Brooklyn supergroup? Yes, we shall. Members are veterans of such avant-rock staples as Dymaxion, Caroliner, Fly Ashtray, Wharton Tiers Ensemble, and even Flaming Fire. They're a strong branch in the twisted pop family tree that calls The Residents "gramps" - and they'll be live on Scott's show Monday June 24th!

edutainment, please serve with chilled wine or generic beer. Look
for other junkies to follow in this series.

Blackeyes and Early Humans Thursday, May 30th, 2002, 11pm - 2am
on
Pat Duncan's show
Blackeyes are drum-corps-core from D.C., featuring ex-Rapture member. Massive percussion (two full-time drummers, other drum kit pieces scattered around the stage), bass-driven. A very rhythmic feel. Think of a no-wave !!! or the dubbed-out version of the Slits. They've just recorded their first 7" with Ian MacKaye.
Early Humans play loud rock on see-through drums. The sound is closest family-tree-wise to West Coast hardcore of the mid-1990s: Antioch Arrow, Angel Hair, that sort of thing. They toured in 2001 with Blood Brothers.
Sigh Tuesday, May 28th, 2002, 3pm - 6pm

Sigh are a trio without categorization: Black Metal roots (they actually recorded their first record for a label run by Euronymous of Mayhem before he was killed), but upon listening to their new album Imaginary Sonicscape they swing into realms trodden by the likes of Schoenberg, Naked City, Goblin, Thin Lizzy, Kix, Ennio Morricone, Booker T, and even Giorgio Morodor and ELO. A rare chance to hear a Black Metal band that utilizes saxophone and Hammond organ on their records; what they will be like live will surely blow minds. You do not want to miss this.

on
Scott Williams's show
Ever since Gary Wilson self-released his slick psycho-erotic underground
masterpiece You Think You Really Know Me in 1977, WFMU (not to mention the worldwide rock music underground) has had an intense, albeit unrequited love affair with him. He's a mystery - he's a cult - he's a hero - he's a mysterious cult hero! And after 24 years of obscurity, he's finally coming to WFMU!! Don't miss it ... really.

Brother JT Tuesday, May 14th, 2002, 3pm - 6pm
on
Brian Turner's show
Rescheduled after JT was feeling under the weather in February, Bethlehem Pennsylvania's finest performs with band in studio today. For the uninitiated, JT's music is soulful and psychedelic, full of zonked fuzzified guitars to accompany some of his wild outer-mind explorations, but completely pop and accessible. JT has two new amazing discs out on the Birdman and Drag City record labels.
