He returned to college last year and has just pulled his second straight 4.0 GPA! I am so proud of him and have to share it with friends!

	🦇 ♥ 3:17pm chris in the redwoods: i have a son who reminded me of that, David. he decided to not do college, at least right away. so far, he's been a diesel and hydraulics mechanic, a snow cat driver (ski run groomer), a climbing wall builder all over the country. i think he's doing things right, even if i do hope he decides on college when he figures out what he wants to deep dive into.

Unfortunately I am familiar with not being able to function in 'real life' (being able to work etc.) because of depression, anxiety and other obstacles, so it does give me some hope that there are people like your son who have managed to come back from there. College isn't for everyone, and when it is, there's definitely a distribution ages for when it starts to click for people - if it's 18-20 that's great, if it's 25 that's great too, for some people it's 30+ (which is more challenging of course, but it may be what's right for them). And for others of course, never. Meanwhile, a -lot- of damage can be done by forcing warm, squishy human beings into cold, bureaucratic square holes (namely college) so as long as you're avoiding that categorical error, count yourselves lucky

College isn't for everyone, and when it is, there's definitely a distribution ages for when it starts to click for people - if it's 18-20 that's great, if it's 25 that's great too, for some people it's 30+ (which is more challenging of course, but it may be what's right for them). And for others of course, never. Meanwhile, a -lot- of damage can be done by forcing warm, squishy human beings into cold, bureaucratic square holes (namely college) so as long as you're avoiding that categorical error, count yourselves lucky
